President Trump said documents related to UFOs and unexplained aerial phenomena, aka UAPs, will be released “very soon,” NewsNation reports.
Alito and Thomas Have No Plans to Retire This Year
“Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, the subject of intensifying speculation about a potential retirement before the midterm elections, is not expected to leave the bench this year,” ABC News reports.
“The court’s most senior member — 77-year-old conservative Justice Clarence Thomas — is also expected to remain on the bench.”
Republican Nerves Are Fraying Ahead of Midterms
“Republican officials are sounding the alarm and urging significant changes ahead of November’s midterm elections, worried that the war in Iran and Democratic enthusiasm could lead to a blowout,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
“In some places, they fear it might already be too late.”
Ilhan Omar Says She Isn’t a Multimillionaire
“Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, facing potential investigations pushed by President Trump and House Republicans, said she isn’t as wealthy as documents she previously submitted to Congress suggest because there were major accounting errors in her filing,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
Trump Expects Iran Deal ‘In a Day or Two’
President Trump told Axios that U.S. and Iranian negotiators will probably meet this weekend, and he expects them to hammer out a final deal to end the war.
Said Trump: “The Iranians want to meet. They want to make a deal. I think a meeting will probably take place over the weekend. I think we will get a deal in the next day or two.”
Wall Street Journal: Trump’s efforts to strong-arm Iran into deal spark optimism — and confusion.
Agencies in Talks with Trump Family to Resolve Lawsuit
“Federal agencies are engaging in discussions to resolve a lawsuit brought by President Donald Trump and his family over the leak of their tax information to news organizations,” the Washington Post reports.
“The lawsuit, when it was filed, sought at least $10 billion in damages, claiming that the federal government did not properly safeguard the tax returns ‘from unauthorized inspection and public disclosure.’ Trump is suing the government in a personal capacity, not as president.”
The FBI Director Is MIA
Kash Patel’s erratic behavior at the FBI could cost him his job, including what his colleagues describe as unexplained absences and excessive drinking, which have alarmed colleagues and his security detail, The Atlantic reports.
“Several officials told me that Patel’s drinking has been a recurring source of concern across the government. They said he is known to drink to the point of obvious intoxication, in many cases at the private club Ned’s in Washington, D.C., while in the presence of White House and other administration staff. He is also known to drink to excess at the Poodle Room in Las Vegas, where he frequently spends parts of his weekends.”

NPR Gets $113 Million from Two Donors
“NPR has received two of the largest gifts in the public media network’s existence, totaling $113 million,” NPR reports.
“They will go toward fueling innovation in NPR’s use of digital technology, increasing its connection with audiences, and ensuring the viability of public radio stations after Congress eliminated all federal funding for public media.”
Obama Featured in Virginia Redistricting Campaign
New York Times: “Virginia voters could be forgiven for wondering where Barack Obama stands on gerrymandering.”
“The former president is appearing in videos and ads pushing Virginians to vote ‘Yes’ on a Democratic-backed referendum next week on whether to redraw the state’s House map to give the party more seats. But the Republican-backed ‘No’ side is running TV ads that highlight his past opposition to partisan gerrymandering.”
“The dueling Obama ads have confused voters, according to the referendum’s Democratic supporters, who have grown increasingly anxious about the vote in the final days before Election Day on Tuesday.”
Trump Says Iran Has Agreed to ‘Everything’
President Trump told CBS News that Iran has “agreed to everything,” and will work with the U.S. to remove its enriched uranium.
He insisted that doing so will not involve U.S. ground troops. But when asked who would retrieve it, he would only say “our people.”
Said Trump: “No. No troops. We’ll go down and get it with them, and then we’ll take it. We’ll be getting it together because by that time, we’ll have an agreement and there’s no need for fighting when there’s an agreement. Nice right? That’s better. We would have done it the other way if we had to.”
America’s Orange Jesus
Susan Glasser: “The point is simply this: in Trump 1.0, Orange Jesus was a snarky shorthand for the hypocrisy of Republicans who knew better but joined up with the cult of Trump anyway.”
“In Trump 2.0, Trump thinks he has actually become Orange Jesus.”
“How else to explain the President’s many otherwise inexplicable acts since returning to office? The gilding of the White House to resemble a profane copy of the Vatican, the ever more baroque lies, the slapping his name on everything, and, perhaps most of all, the repeated reminders that our leader recognizes no earthly limits on his power as he wages war in the Middle East and speaks of conquering other lands.”
Said Trump back in January: “There is one thing. My own morality. My own mind. It’s the only thing that can stop me.”
Senate Bails Out Mike Johnson
“The Senate passed a 10-day FISA extension on Friday, sending it to President Donald Trump’s desk ahead of Monday’s deadline and averting a lapse in authority,” Punchbowl News reports.
“But Senate Republicans have their work cut out for them as they attempt to clean up the House GOP mess. Speaker Mike Johnson’s Republican Conference is paralyzed on renewing FISA’s Section 702, underscored by a series of humiliating floor defeats Thursday night.”
“Senate Majority Leader John Thune hinted that senators could take the lead on a longer-term extension of the authority amid the House’s paralysis on the issue.”
Health Care Is Dead on Capitol Hill
NOTUS: “While Democrats continue to champion lower health care costs on the campaign trail and prepare to hammer Kennedy on the issue, there is still little appetite among both Democrats and Republicans to team up and overcome the Senate’s 60-vote filibuster and achieve much of anything on health care –– whether it’s extending the ACA tax credits, codifying drug-pricing caps or something else.”
Trump Urged to Act on Iranian Site Feared Impervious
New York Times: “Over the past year, U.S. airstrikes have crippled Iran’s nuclear program. Several Iranian nuclear facilities lie in ruins. And Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium — “nuclear dust,” as President Trump calls it — is thought to be deeply buried under rubble.”
“But even after a U.S. bombing raid last June and more than five weeks of attacks on Iran since February, one suspected nuclear site remains untouched. Experts say the underground facility, known as Pickaxe Mountain, is buried so deep that it may lie beyond the reach of America’s most powerful bunker-buster bombs.”
GOP Lawmaker Likens Trump to ‘Second Coming’ of Christ
Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) likened President Trump to a “second coming” amid backlash over the president’s feud with Pope Leo XIV and his administration’s use of religious language when discussing the Iran conflict, NewsNation reports.
Said Nehls: “I believe that Donald Trump is better than sliced bread. I think he’s almost a second coming, in my humble opinion.”
Young Adults Fear the Impact of AI
“Young adults are scared and unprepared for the AI revolution upending their early career choices and prospects,” Axios reports.
“They tell pollsters they’re frightened, even angry, about AI’s fast arrival. They’re rightly unnerved by a tough job market for college grads. And most aren’t remotely equipped by schools to be AI-savvy.”
“This is a growing problem for just about everyone — kids, educators, employers and politicians.”
Strait Jacket
Richard Haass: “The principal reality now is that neither the United States nor Iran would benefit from a resumption of fighting. We have all but run out of targets, and the Trump administration should have learned by now that bombing will not lead Iran to capitulate. Nor will it produce regime change.”
“As for Iran, it has already shown it is both willing and able to disrupt shipping and threaten the energy infrastructure of its neighbors. But carrying out such a threat at this stage would lead to the destruction of its own energy infrastructure, making economic recovery all but impossible.”
