June 14, 2025 at 1:24 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“President Trump prepared on Saturday to make a show of American military might with a parade of tanks, missiles and aircraft through the heart of the nation’s capital,” the New York Times reports.

Israel and Iran Defy Calls for De-Escalation

June 14, 2025 at 1:21 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Warning of a protracted fight, Israel and Iran carried out waves of deadly attacks on Saturday, with neither side heeding international pleas for an de-escalation of hostilities,” the New York Times reports.

“In sweeping attacks that started early Friday, Israel has struck at the regime in Tehran, hitting Iranian nuclear and military assets. The Israeli strikes have killed more than 70 people, including four top security chiefs, and damaged Iran’s main nuclear site at Natanz.”

“Iran, in turn, has launched barrages of ballistic missiles and drones at Israel, targeting what it says are military assets, but with less apparent success.“

“Michael Avenatti, the once-swaggering celebrity lawyer who represented adult film star Stormy Daniels in her court battles against President Trump, was resentenced Thursday to 11 years in prison for dodging taxes and stealing millions of dollars from clients,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

“U.S. District Judge James V. Selna resentenced Avenatti to 135 months — slightly more than 11 years — but credited him 40 months for the time he has served in prison for stealing nearly $300,000 from Daniels’ advance on a book contract. That brought his sentence to nearly eight years.”

How Scientific Journals Became MAGA’s Latest Target

June 14, 2025 at 2:37 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The Trump administration’s attack on scientific institutions has been characteristically audacious: Eliminating the U.S. Agency for International Development, which funded healthcare interventions and research worldwide. Removing all the members of the vaccine advisory panel of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Cutting healthcare research funding by $1.8 billion and overall funding for the National Institutes of Health by $3 billion,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“It has also homed in on what might seem like a small-bore opponent: the highly specialized world of science and medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association.”

A Big Miscalculation by Iran

June 14, 2025 at 2:33 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Iran’s senior leaders had been planning for more than a week for an Israeli attack should nuclear talks with the United States fail. But they made one enormous miscalculation,” the New York Times reports.

“They never expected Israel to strike before another round of talks that had been scheduled for this coming Sunday in Oman, officials close to Iran’s leadership said on Friday. They dismissed reports that an attack was imminent as Israeli propaganda meant to pressure Iran to make concessions on its nuclear program in those talks.”
