Judge Halts Trump Order on Mail Ballots

July 1, 2026 at 4:49 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“A federal judge blocked the US Postal Service from carrying out its plan for President Donald Trump’s mail ballot executive order, finding that the proposal violated a settlement in a 2020 lawsuit against the agency,” CNN reports.

“Trump had directed USPS to only transmit ballots for states that submit to the agency lists of their mail-in voters and that meet other requirements for their mail voting programs. Previously, a judge in Boston had halted the Postal Service from implementing the order for two-dozen states that challenged it in court. But the new ruling from US District Judge Emmet Sullivan, who sits in Washington DC, blocks the directives nationwide.”

Trump Pockets Millions While His Crypto Fans Lose Out

July 1, 2026 at 4:35 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“A large chunk of the $2 billion haul President Trump took in last year came as hundreds of thousands of his fans and other investors bet on a speculative cryptocurrency called $TRUMP, hoping its value would soar with his return to the White House,” the New York Times reports.

“But while Mr. Trump amassed an eye-popping $636 million from the cryptocurrency, known as a memecoin, many of his followers who heeded his call to purchase the coin came out losers.”

Trump’s AI Flip-Flopping Could Be a Gift to China

July 1, 2026 at 4:07 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The Trump administration in recent weeks has meddled with the rollout of advanced artificial intelligence models developed by America’s top AI companies,” Politico reports.

“China, meanwhile, has announced a slate of new AI tools it says rival the United States’ most sophisticated technology at a fraction of the cost.”

“Some security experts worry that the White House’s efforts to restrict the U.S. tools from wider access — and dithering between promises of light-touch intervention and more invasive regulatory action — may have given China a window of opportunity in the race to develop AI tools that could be used as cyber weapons.”

Wired: Anthropic added a new security measure to get back into the Trump administration’s good graces.

Trump Made More Last Year Than His Entire First Term

July 1, 2026 at 3:56 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“During President Donald Trump’s first term in office, we frequently heard about the many ways he was profiting off of the presidency and for good reason: No other U.S. president in history had enriched himself to the extent Trump did (to the tune of $1.6 billion) and in such flagrant ways (charging taxpayers for the water he drank at Mar-a-Lago, for example),” New York Magazine reports.

“But those days now look downright quaint given the unbelievable amount of money the businessman president took in during his first year back in Washington.”

“According to new financial disclosures, Trump made more in 2025 than he did in his entire first term in the White House, raking in at least $2.2 billion last year.”

Minnesota Board Pardons Sex Offender Facing Deportation

July 1, 2026 at 3:41 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“A three-person Minnesota panel including Gov. Tim Walz granted a pardon to an immigrant convicted of sexually abusing a child, drawing accusations that he and other Democrats are impeding federal efforts to expel dangerous foreign criminals eligible for deportation,” the New York Times reports.

“The Minnesota Board of Pardons granted the reprieve on June 10 to Tou Lue Vang, 42, who came to the United States as a child and was set to be deported to Laos imminently. Mr. Vang had submitted a letter to the board expressing regret for the actions that led to his 2005 conviction, and said a pardon could help him stay in the country with his wife and six children.”

July 1, 2026 at 3:11 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Former Sen. Joe Manchin, the Democrat-turned-independent from West Virginia, is recommending that Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) follow in his path and leave the Democratic Party,” the Washington Examiner reports.

Said Manchin: “My observation, and recommendation from observation, would be, John, trust me, set yourself free and become an independent. It’s liberating.”

There’s Nothing Democratic About These Socialists

July 1, 2026 at 3:09 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Jonathan Chait: “The DSA’s feelings about Democrats encompass not only the party’s leadership but also the philosophical commitments that have guided it since the New Deal: a mixed economy undergirded by democratic values. Chevalier, for instance, joined a post–October 7 celebratory rally and portrayed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a defensive response to Western ‘bullying.’ She previously called for seizing land and the means of production and has repeatedly praised communism.”

“These positions are not holdovers from the idealism of youth or a bygone ‘woke’ era. They are a byproduct of the DSA’s core ideology. The DSA has become a force in Democratic Party politics even as it has grown more hostile to the party, more illiberal, and more dogmatic.”

White House Slams Venezuela Leader’s Return Bid

July 1, 2026 at 3:00 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado’s repeated efforts to return to her home country — and stage a photo op — after last week’s devastating earthquakes there have outraged top Trump administration,” Axios reports.

“Machado’s high-profile attempts to return have saddled the State Department with ‘extra needless drama,’ an official said, and threaten to inflame political tensions in Venezuela amid U.S.-assisted relief efforts.”

Said one administration official: “It’s political opportunism and it’s grotesque.”

GOP Lawmaker Held Hearing on CIA Mind Control

July 1, 2026 at 2:55 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

On Tuesday, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) held a House oversight hearing on the CIA’s defunct mind control program that operated from 1953 to 1973, Mother Jones reports.

Luna used the hearing to promote conspiracy theories, suggesting without evidence that MKULTRA might still be active and asking whether USAID “may have been used overseas” on “prisoners of war” to continue the program.

Trump Remakes D.C. Into a Maze of Fences

July 1, 2026 at 2:53 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool is surrounded by fencing. So is Lafayette Park, just north of the White House. The Great American State Fair, on the National Mall, is encased by so much fencing — several panels labeled with the word ‘FREEDOM’ — that it is difficult to reach several Smithsonian museums or a nearby Metro station,” the New York Times reports.

“Presiding over a series of fenced-off or under-construction festivities ahead of the country’s 250th celebration is President Trump, who does not seem to mind that some of the nation’s most enduring symbols of liberty and expression are closed off and militarized…”

“In his drive to ‘beautify’ the nation’s capital, Mr. Trump seems to have turned portions of the city into either a construction zone or an armed camp as he seeks to prove that he alone can improve a city he interacts with primarily from his armored limousine or presidential helicopter.”

Todd Blanche Threatens Legal Action on Gun Controls

July 1, 2026 at 2:43 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche threatened lawsuits against four states that have gun restrictions similar to the Hawaii law that the Supreme Court struck down last week,” CNN reports.

“He also warned states considering laws that ‘mirror’ Hawaii’s that they could face Justice Department lawsuits as well, as the Trump administration has made challenges to firearm regulations a priority, including with two new lawsuits announced Wednesday.”

July 1, 2026 at 2:36 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republicans in the US House of Representatives are asking President Donald Trump to allow a waiver of a century-old shipping law granted in March to tame fuel prices to expire,” Bloomberg reports.

“The lawmakers said in a letter to the president made public Wednesday that the 126-year-old Jones Act is crucial for protecting the US maritime industry and that the waiver is being exploited by other nations. They urged Trump to allow it to lapse as scheduled on Aug. 16.”

Trump Weighs Blocking Pregnant Visitors

July 1, 2026 at 1:59 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“After losing the birthright citizenship case at the Supreme Court, President Trump’s aides and MAGA allies quickly pivoted to a new plan: blocking pregnant foreign women from entering the United States,” Axios reports.

“The proposal would open a new immigration battle over pregnancy, travel and citizenship, shifting the conversation from challenging the rights of children born in the U.S. to restricting who can enter the country.”

Trump Family Rakes in Cash from Middle East Deals

July 1, 2026 at 1:51 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The Middle East has been good for President Trump’s bottom line,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“Entities from the Gulf paid around $300 million to the president’s businesses last year, more than any other foreign region identifiable in his financial disclosures released Tuesday, which detailed more than $2 billion in revenue across his businesses.”

July 1, 2026 at 1:34 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Karoline Leavitt’s Old Campaign Remains Awash in Red Ink

July 1, 2026 at 1:32 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Karoline Leavitt can’t seem to shake her old campaign debt,” NOTUS reports.

“The White House press secretary’s 2022 congressional campaign still owes creditors more than $326,000, according to its most recent financial report, filed Wednesday with the Federal Election Commission.”

“Most of that debt — more than $210,000 — is attributable to unpaid refunds to donors who made excessive contributions to Leavitt’s campaign, in violation of federal limits.”
