Oklahoma Democrat Blames Medication for Outburst

February 19, 2022 at 10:49 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Abby Broyles (D), an Oklahoma City Democrat running for Congress, said Friday that a combination of medication and alcohol led to a bizarre scene last weekend in which she allegedly insulted young girls at a slumber party and threw up at least twice,” The Oklahoman reports.

“The comments are at odds with Broyles’ outright denials to the online publication NonDoc, which posted a detailed story on Thursday about Broyles’ insults and drinking. Broyles told NonDoc she hadn’t even attended the party on Feb. 11 and that she was out of town.”

February 19, 2022 at 10:36 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Scheme to Reverse 2020 Election Splits Wisconsin GOP

February 19, 2022 at 10:32 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “First, Wisconsin Republicans ordered an audit of the 2020 election. Then they passed a raft of new restrictions on voting. And in June, they authorized the nation’s only special counsel investigation into 2020.”

“Now, more than 15 months after former President Donald Trump lost the state by 20,682 votes, an increasingly vocal segment of the Republican Party is getting behind a new scheme: decertifying the results of the 2020 presidential election in hopes of reinstalling Mr. Trump in the White House.”

“Wisconsin is closer to the next federal election than the last, but the Republican effort to overturn the election results here is picking up steam rather than fading away — and spiraling further from reality as it goes.”

Progressives Look to Topple Henry Cuellar

February 19, 2022 at 10:26 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) already faced a difficult rematch in the March 1 Democratic primary against the progressive challenger who nearly defeated him two years ago,” CNN reports.

“Then the FBI showed up in January to search his home here in Laredo and the building that houses his campaign office.”

“Though the details of the investigation remain murky as Texas prepares to kick off the 2022 midterm primary calendar with the year’s first contests, Cuellar’s challenger, 28-year-old immigration attorney Jessica Cisneros, is seizing on the FBI probe in television advertisements and on the campaign trail. And progressives, sensing an opening to oust one of the House’s most conservative Democrats in a left-leaning district that the party would be favored to hold in the November general election, have rallied to her side.”

Brace for a Long Ukraine Crisis

February 19, 2022 at 8:02 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Fiona Hill: “I think they’re handling it as well as they can be, given the circumstances. Writ large, what the administration is doing right now is certainly what I would recommend doing. But I don’t know whether we can say if it’s going to work or not. The real test is going to be over a long period of time. I don’t think this is going to be a short, sharp crisis.”

“Putin’s been trying to get a grip on Ukraine for years now. They cut off the gas to Ukraine in 2006. He’s been in power for 22 years, and the whole of that time, he’s had Ukraine in the cross hairs one way or another, and it’s intensified over time. Putin wants to be the person who, on his watch, in his presidency, pulls Ukraine back into Russia’s orbit. And he could be president until 2036, in terms of what’s possible for him.”

Harris Warns Russia of Severe Consequences

February 19, 2022 at 7:49 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Said Harris: “Let me be clear, I can say with absolute certainty if Russia further invades Ukraine the United States, together with our allies and partners, will impose significant and unprecedented economic costs.”

Biden Still Touts Build Back Better

February 19, 2022 at 7:36 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“To hear President Biden tell it, his Build Back Better plan is ‘close’ to passing the Senate and delivering relief to Americans struggling with the cost of prescription drugs. He has talked this month of how it would cap child-care costs for many Americans and how utility companies are embracing its climate and energy initiatives!” the Washington Post reports.

“But it’s not clear such a plan exists anymore, at least in any recognizable form. Behind the scenes, discussions between the White House and key senators on what was once a massive climate and social spending package have virtually evaporated.”

February 19, 2022 at 7:33 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Police arrested scores of demonstrators and towed away vehicles Friday in Canada’s besieged capital, and a stream of trucks started leaving under the pressure, raising authorities’ hopes for an end to the three-week protest against the country’s Covid-19 restrictions,” the AP reports.

“By evening, at least 100 people had been arrested, mostly on mischief charges, and nearly two dozen vehicles had been towed, including all of those blocking one of the city’s major streets, authorities said. One officer had a minor injury, but no protesters were hurt.”

Biden Says Russia Has Decided to Invade Ukraine

February 18, 2022 at 5:32 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“President Biden held another round of urgent talks with European leaders on Friday afternoon as the United States and its allies continued to warn that Russia was poised to invade Ukraine and trigger the largest conflict on the continent since World War II,” the New York Times reports.

Said Biden: “We have reason to believe the Russian forces are planning and intend to attack Ukraine in the coming week, the coming days. We believe that they will target Ukraine’s capital Kyiv.”

Washington Post: “The remarks amounted to some of the most specific and definitive comments Biden has used to describe his interpretation of Russia’s intentions.”

February 18, 2022 at 4:59 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“President Joe Biden is actively looking for Republican support for his Supreme Court nominee. But he’s doing it cautiously, wary of setting expectations that end in failure,” Politico reports.

“Neither party anticipates the type of rancorous, ugly battle that has defined recent high court picks, but White House officials are trying to handle conversations with GOP lawmakers delicately in a way that avoids unwanted attention.”

February 18, 2022 at 4:17 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Civil lawsuits seeking to hold Donald Trump accountable for the January 6 insurrection can move forward in court, and the ex-President doesn’t have absolute immunity from litigation, a federal judge ruled Friday,” CNN reports.

“Democratic members of the House and police officers who defended the US Capitol on January 6 sued Trump, claiming he prompted his supporters to attack. Friday, Mehta wrote that the lawsuits could move to the evidence-gathering phase and toward a trial – a major loss in court for Trump.”
