Washington Post Opinion Editor Resigns

February 26, 2025 at 11:17 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The Washington Post‘s Opinion Section editor David Shipley resigned after owner Jeff Bezos mandated the section prioritize two topics, personal liberties and free markets, and not publish dissenting views in those areas,” Axios reports.

Wrote Bezos, in an email to staff: “I am of America and for America, and proud to be so. Our country did not get here by being typical. And a big part of America’s success has been freedom in the economic realm and everywhere else. Freedom is ethical — it minimizes coercion — and practical — it drives creativity, invention, and prosperity.”

February 26, 2025 at 10:13 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Trump shared what appeared to be an AI-generated video depicting his vision of “the Riviera of the Middle East” if his plan to “take over the Gaza strip” comes to fruition, Axios reports.

The bizarre images in the video include Elon Musk eating what appears to be hummus on the beach, followed later of a shot of him dancing on the beach as U.S. dollars rain down.

And it has a shot of Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in swim trunks sipping drinks at a poolside resort.

February 26, 2025 at 10:05 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Apple said it would fix a “bug” occurring on some iPhones in which its text-to-speech transcription software is sometimes replacing certain words with an “r” consonant—including “racist”—with “Trump,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

The words “rampant” and “rampage” also at times appear to be replaced with “Trump.”

The Job Market Is Frozen

February 26, 2025 at 9:19 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Rogé Karma: “The answer is that two seemingly incompatible things are happening in the job market at the same time. Even as the unemployment rate has hovered around 4 percent for more than three years, the pace of hiring has slowed to levels last seen shortly after the Great Recession, when the unemployment rate was nearly twice as high. The percentage of workers voluntarily quitting their jobs to find new ones, a signal of worker power and confidence, has fallen by a third from its peak in 2021 and 2022 to nearly its lowest level in a decade.”

“The labor market is seemingly locked in place: Employees are staying put, and employers aren’t searching for new ones. And the dynamic appears to be affecting white-collar professions the most.”

Musk Wants a Cut of $42 Billion Biden Internet Plan

February 26, 2025 at 8:21 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“When President Joe Biden put $42 billion behind making high-speed internet accessible across the US, he committed to doing it the old-fashioned way – with miles upon miles of fiber-optic lines,” Bloomberg reports.

“That frustrated Elon Musk, who said his Starlink satellite-internet business could get rural areas online faster, at lower cost. Biden’s decision helped drive a wedge between the Democratic president and the world’s richest person, who later used his wealth to help return Donald Trump to the White House.”

“Now, some Republicans want to open the floodgates for Starlink to compete with fiber, potentially shifting billions to Musk.”

Musk Called Trump a ‘Fucking Moron’ at 2020 Meeting

February 26, 2025 at 7:55 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Politico: “Shortly before the Covid-19 pandemic began in the United States in 2020, Musk traveled to Washington to meet with Trump about building a Tesla gigafactory in Mexico instead of Texas — a plan Trump had caught wind of and had invited Musk to the West Wing to discuss.”

“Before the meeting, Musk and an associate met with Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and then were hosted by Tim Pataki, who served as assistant to the president and the deputy director of the White House Office of Public Liaison. A person who was within earshot of Musk later recounted that Musk called Trump ‘a fucking moron’ behind his back while in the White House.”

Musk’s Empire Built on $38 Billion in Government Funding

February 26, 2025 at 7:47 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Elon Musk and his cost-cutting U.S. DOGE Service team have been on a mission to trim government largesse. Yet Musk is one of the greatest beneficiaries of the taxpayers’ coffers,” the Washington Post reports.

“Over the years, Musk and his businesses have received at least $38 billion in government contracts, loans, subsidies and tax credits, often at critical moments, a Washington Post analysis has found, helping seed the growth that has made him the world’s richest person.”

Perfecting the Art of ‘Trump Whispering’

February 26, 2025 at 7:45 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Wall Street Journal: “Trump whispering is a practice that takes many forms—flattery, reverse psychology and pomp—but its ultimate aim is to guide him toward your foreign-policy goals. Politicians who pride themselves on Trump whispering say it starts by understanding his transactional instincts.”

“Framing geopolitical issues in real-estate terms is one technique. So is appealing to Trump’s sense of status among world leaders. During Trump’s first term, Macron invited him to Bastille Day celebrations in 2017, making him the guest of honor at France’s annual military parade. The gesture spawned an initial bromance between the men that was expressed in backslaps, hugs and air kisses. Disagreements over Iran and other issues, however, clouded the relationship later in Trump’s first term.”
