“A Wall Street Journal analysis of Federal Election Commission data found that at least 1,900 people contributed 50 times or more to a single presidential candidate through the end of September. The Sanders campaign laid claim to the majority of these ‘super donors,’ the Journal found, with about 1,000 of them. The other Democrats in the race combined for at least 650 ultra-repeat givers, led by Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who had at least 125. And President Trump’s re-election campaign, which began in 2017, has at least 250.”

“The super donor trend is fueled by the increasing ease of giving money online—sometimes by clicking a single button or through automated recurring payments—and the premium that this year’s presidential candidates have placed on having a high volume of tiny donations, which they use as a proxy for grass roots support.”

Iowa Starting Line: “Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s bizarre week in American politics continued Thursday night, when she skipped an appearance at LULAC’s Latino town hall in Des Moines, appearing that evening instead on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show. There, she criticized House Democrats’ impeachment process, a reversal of her recent stance on the matter.”

Joe Biden was interviewed by Norah O’Donnell on 60 Minutes:

O’DONNELL: Do you still consider yourself the frontrunner?

BIDEN: I know I’m the frontrunner. Find me a national poll with a notable – a couple exceptions. The last four that have come out – but look, this is a marathon. This is a marathon.

O’DONNELL: You have less than $9 million in the bank. Bernie Sanders has $30 – nearly $34 million in the bank. Sen. Warren has $26 million. How do you compete against that?

BIDEN: I just flat beat them. We’re on a course to do extremely well. I’m not worried about being able to fund this campaign. I really am not, truly.

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) announced she will not run for re-election and will focus her efforts on her presidential campaign, the Washington Post reports.

“Some years, and some campaigns, have minimized Iowa’s importance. This year is different: Every campaign’s strategy starts with Iowa, with visits there far outpacing visits to other early-voting states. Every campaign has more offices in Iowa than in other primary states, while two candidates (Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and former Texas congressman Beto O’Rourke) have more offices in Iowa than in the next three states put together.”

“Senate Republicans facing steep re-election races next year know the impeachment inquiry coursing steadily ahead on the other side of the Capitol will determine President Trump’s political fate. Their growing fear is that it will also determine their own,” the New York Times reports.

“In a matter of weeks, those few senators have watched helplessly as the investigation by House Democrats has lobbed a grenade into the middle of their campaigns, putting them on the defensive amid a torrent of damaging revelations about the president’s conduct with no clear end in sight.”
