Trump Is All In On DOGE

March 3, 2025 at 1:34 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“President Donald Trump has elevated DOGE to the center of his domestic agenda, channeling significant political capital into defending it, and its architect Elon Musk, from critics in Congress — and his own Cabinet,” Politico reports.

“But ahead of his joint address to Congress on Tuesday, a dozen of the president’s allies, Trump-aligned GOP strategists and former administration officials are warning that Trump going all-in on the Muskian effort is a risky gamble that threatens to overshadow his more popular, and politically crucial, economic and legislative priorities.”

Trump Aide Says Zelensky Must Express ‘Regret’

March 3, 2025 at 12:54 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said President Donald Trump and his national security team will have a “broad discussion of what’s next” for Ukraine when they meet Monday, following Friday’s explosive Oval Office meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, ABC News reports.

Said Waltz: “What we need to hear from President Zelensky is that he has regret for what happened, he’s ready to sign this mineral deal, and that he’s ready to engage in peace talks. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.”

Democrats Silent on Cuomo’s Attempted Comeback

March 3, 2025 at 12:33 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Gothamist: “At the time, most of the state’s top Democrats called for his ouster. But four years later, the same Democratic establishment has remained largely quiet in the early days of his long-expected campaign as Cuomo attempts to rehabilitate his legacy through the city’s mayoral race.”

“That silence has fueled anger among his accusers and other women —directed both at Cuomo and the Democratic establishment — with just four months until the June primary.”

IRS Raises Tax Brackets. Scammers Raise Their Game.

The IRS just announced new tax brackets for 2026, sparking a rush of Americans updating their financial details online. Scammers are watching too—ready to pounce on exposed personal data.

The truth? They don’t hack the IRS. They just buy your financial info—from data brokers selling names, emails, and income ranges to anyone who pays.

Once your data’s out there, it’s open season for phishing, impersonation, and identity theft. That’s why I recommend Incogni. Their team forces data brokers to delete your data and keeps it off the web automatically. Try Incogni here and get 55% off your subscription with code POLITICALWIRE.

Trump to Discuss Suspending Military Aid to Ukraine

March 3, 2025 at 12:09 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“President Trump will hold a meeting Monday afternoon on the next steps regarding the crisis with Ukraine, including a possible suspension of U.S. military aid,” Axios reports.

“Suspending military aid would damage Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against Russia’s invasion and further weaken Ukraine’s leverage as Trump pushes for peace talks.“

How Americans Feel About Trump

March 3, 2025 at 12:07 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

A new PBS News/NPR/Marist poll finds Donald Trump’s job approval remains underwater, with 49% disapproving and 45% approving of his record so far.

However, the poll also found a growing sense from the public that the country is headed in the right direction: 45% of Americans believe so, up 10 points from December and now at the second-highest point of the last 15 years.

‘Whose Side Are You On?’

March 3, 2025 at 12:04 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

NBC News reports on a TV ad campaign by two liberal groups featuring a veteran named Leb from Virginia, speaking to Donald Trump and saying he voted for him to “lower costs and protect jobs.”

Said Leb: “You can cut taxes for billionaires and big corporations, or look out for us — the hard-working people who put you into office. So, my question to you is: Whose side are you on? Mr. President, choose families like mine. Don’t give billionaires even more tax breaks. Fight for us, not them.”

RFK Jr. and His Allies Target Trump’s Beloved Soda

March 3, 2025 at 11:00 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Wall Street Journal: “At both state and federal levels, the Kennedy-led Make America Healthy Again movement is backing efforts to prevent people from spending food-aid benefits on sugary, carbonated beverages. Now, they are gaining momentum with an administration led by a man who enjoys soda so much that he had a red button installed on his desk for a valet to bring him a Diet Coke.”

“Beverage companies are nervous about the push and preparing a counterpush of their own.”

RFK Jr. Spokesman Quits Abruptly

March 3, 2025 at 10:42 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The top spokesperson at the Health and Human Services Department has abruptly quit, just two weeks after he rejoined the federal government,” Politico reports.

Trump Administration May Revise GDP Calculation

March 3, 2025 at 10:12 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Associated Press: “The Trump administration may exclude government spending from GDP, obscuring the impact of DOGE cuts.”

“Doing so could potentially complicate or distort a fundamental measure of the U.S. economy’s health. Government spending is traditionally included in the GDP because changes in taxes, spending, deficits and regulations by the government can impact the path of overall growth. GDP reports already include extensive details on government spending, offering a level of transparency for economists.”

USAID Official Ousted for Memo

March 3, 2025 at 10:08 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“A senior career official at the U.S. Agency for International Development was placed on leave Sunday on the same day he disseminated a detailed memo to staff describing the U.S. government’s ‘failure’ to provide lifesaving assistance around the world because of actions by President Donald Trump’s political appointees,” the Washington Post reports.

ProPublica: The Trump administration said these aid programs saved lives. It canceled them anyway.

Putin Ally Seeks Restart of Gas Pipeline with U.S. Backing

March 3, 2025 at 10:01 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“A former spy and close friend of Vladimir Putin has been engineering a restart of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to Europe with the backing of US investors, a once unthinkable move that shows the breadth of Donald Trump’s rapprochement with Moscow,” the Financial Times reports.

America’s Cultural Revolution

March 3, 2025 at 10:00 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Stephen Marche: “The takeover of the Kennedy Center may seem like an afterthought in the furious drama of President Donald Trump’s first month in office. The abandonment of the transatlantic alliance, proposals to annex territory on multiple continents, the evisceration of national institutions, and overt claims to kingship are such eye-popping departures from precedent that the leadership of a somewhat stuffy, self-consciously elite performing-arts venue seems negligible by comparison.”

“But Trump’s peculiar preoccupation with the Kennedy Center is symptomatic of a profound change in the nature of American power since his inauguration: America is undergoing a cultural revolution. ‘This is going to be great television,’ Trump said at the end of Friday’s stormy session with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. It may as well be the motto of his administration.”

Trump Announces ‘Strategic Reserve’ for Crypto

March 3, 2025 at 9:57 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Crypto prices surged Sunday after President Trump said he would move forward on a U.S. crypto strategic reserve that would include bitcoin and ether, as well as three smaller and riskier tokens,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“It remains unclear how such a reserve would be created—or whether it could bring any benefit to the country.”

Trump Says Spend Less Time Worrying About Putin

March 3, 2025 at 9:45 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Trump slammed H.R. McMaster after his former national security adviser said he is “being played” by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Said Trump: “H.R. McMaster is a weak and totally ineffective loser!”

He added: “We should spend less time worrying about Putin, and more time worrying about migrant rape gangs, drug lords, murderers, and people from mental institutions entering our Country – So that we don’t end up like Europe!”

No Advance Knowledge of Trump Assassination Attempt

March 3, 2025 at 9:37 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

CNN rejected the conspiracy theory that the cable network somehow had advance knowledge of the attempt on Donald Trump’s life last summer.

The Voice of Trump

March 3, 2025 at 9:24 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

The Voice of America has launched a formal review of its chief national correspondent’s social media activity for potential bias against the Trump administration.

The review is part of a broader pattern under the U.S. Agency for Global Media, VOA’s parent organization, which has opened investigations into journalists over their reporting on criticism of President Trump.

Europeans Embrace Zelensky After He Was Vilified

March 3, 2025 at 9:13 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Top U.S. officials are piling heat on Volodymyr Zelensky, suggesting he may need to relinquish power after his disastrous Oval Office meeting — even as Europe embraces the Ukrainian president more tightly than ever,” CNN reports.

“The contrast highlighted the most damaging split in the Western alliance at least since the Berlin Wall fell and bolstered a sense that the “free world” has been pushed to the brink of fracturing early in President Donald Trump’s new term.”

“Yet the sight of Europe stepping into the impasse left by Trump’s first bid to end the Ukraine war could also represent hope that good could come out of the debacle of Zelensky’s visit. That’s if the continent can, as it promised Sunday, construct a peace plan to hand to the US president.”

Three Crises Facing Trump and Republicans

March 3, 2025 at 9:01 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“President Donald Trump and GOP leaders are confronting a trio of self-made crises as we enter a very big week for Republicans,” Punchbowl News reports.

  1. “Government funding expires in 11 days. Speaker Mike Johnson now says he wants a clean continuing resolution through Sept. 30 without trying to codify the cuts made by Elon Musk’s DOGE team. While this is a reversal from Johnson’s previous position, it lines Johnson up with Senate Majority Leader John Thune. Yet Democratic votes will be necessary to pass anything.”
  2. “European leaders are rallying behind Ukraine after Trump’s Oval Office blowup with President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday… NATO’s future is in doubt and allies worldwide are openly questioning the United States’ reliability as a partner.”
  3. “Trump will announce Tuesday – the day of his Capitol Hill address – whether he’ll move forward with 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada… plus another 10% tariff boost on imports from China.”
