Trump Transition Team Had to Sign NDA

December 6, 2016 at 9:15 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Trump transition team members had to sign a code of ethics with a pretty significant lobbying ban, but they’ve also had to sign a non-disclosure agreement to make certain they keep all of their work confidential,” Politico reports.

“The agreement legally bars transition staffers from disclosing info about major portions of the transition work, like policy briefings, personnel material, donor info, fundraising goals, budgets, contracts, or any draft research papers. It also demands that if anyone on the team suspects a colleague of leaking material, he or she must tell transition team leadership.”

Bonus Quote of the Day

December 6, 2016 at 8:09 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“They have nothing to put in its place. And believe me, just repealing Obamacare, even though they have nothing to put in its place, and saying they’ll do it sometime down the road, will cause huge calamity, from one end of America to the other. They don’t know what to do. They’re like the dog that caught the bus.”

— Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY), quoted by the Huffington Post, on Republican promises to repeal Obamacare next month.

One In Nine Trump Tweets Is an Insult

December 6, 2016 at 4:06 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

The New York Times found that about one in every nine tweets by Donald Trump over the last 18 months was an insult of some kind.

“First, Mr. Trump likes to identify a couple of chief enemies and attack them until they are no longer threatening enough to interest him. He hurls insults at these foils relentlessly, for sustained periods – weeks or months… Second, there’s a nearly constant stream of insults in the background directed at a wider range of subjects.”

Trump Sold All His Stocks In June

December 6, 2016 at 1:10 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President-elect Donald Trump sold all of his stockholdings in June, the Wall Street Journal reports.

“The revelation came on Tuesday from a spokesman for Mr. Trump during a phone call with reporters. He was asked about Mr. Trump’s past holdings in Boeing, a company the president-elect had criticized earlier in the day for what he alleged were high costs for the next Air Force One. Mr. Trump held roughly 150 separate corporate stock and bond investments, according to a filing he submitted in May.”

Flynn Regularly Spreads Fake News

December 6, 2016 at 9:51 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Incoming Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn “has used social media to promote a series of outrageous conspiracy theories about Hillary Clinton, President Barack Obama and their inner circles in recent months — pushing dubious factoids at least 16 times since Aug. 9,” Politico reports.

“Flynn, who has 106,000 Twitter followers, has used the platform to retweet accusations that Clinton is involved with child sex trafficking and has ‘secretly waged war’ on the Catholic Church, as well as charges that Obama is a ‘jihadi’ who ‘laundered’ money for Muslim terrorists.”

“Now some say Flynn’s fondness for spreading fake news casts doubt on his fitness to serve as the White House’s national security adviser, suggesting that he either can’t spot a blatant falsehood or is just ideologically bent to believe the worst of his perceived enemies.”

Is Growing List of Candidates Helping Giuliani?

December 6, 2016 at 9:25 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

First Read: “Every day, it seems that Donald Trump’s secretary of state list keeps expanding — yesterday was Jon Huntsman’s turn in the spotlight. But here is something to chew on: Is this expanding list all about helping Rudy Giuliani, the original frontrunner for the job? Every time that someone new is examined (whether Huntsman or Mitt Romney or David Petraeus or that Exxon-Mobil CEO), does that help Giuliani’s case?”

Conway Still Mulling Which Job to Take

December 6, 2016 at 9:20 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Senior Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway told the Washington Post that she is considering leading a group being formed that will provide “a surround-sound super structure” to bolster the new administration’s political and policy goals.

Conway said that she “is still deciding whether to join Trump at the White House or run the organization, which will seek to harness his most fervent supporters in political and policy fights… Conway said she and her family are considering relocating to Washington from New York and have been house-hunting.”

Big Majority Think Christie Should Have Stood Trial

December 6, 2016 at 7:45 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

A new Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind poll finds that 71% of New Jersey voters believe Gov. Chris Christie (R) should have been a defendant in the recently concluded Bridgegate trial.

Just 18% of voters approve of Christie’s job performance, while 73% disapprove.

Said pollster Krista Jenkins: “Christie has been abandoned by virtually everyone, which is a far cry from where he once sat atop a field of aspiring presidential candidates who cut a more polarizing figure than he did.”

A new Quinnipiac poll finds just 19% approve of Christie’s performance while 77% disapprove — the lowest for any governor in 20 years.

Trump’s Takeover of the GOP Begins

December 6, 2016 at 7:41 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Politico: “His staffers are lining up to run for offices up and down the ballot. Loyalists are looking to dislodge state party leaders who are perceived as insufficiently committed to the president-elect. And a top Trump aide has emerged as a leading contender to become the next chairman of the Republican National Committee.”

“Less than a month after Election Day, the party that once kept Trump at arm’s length is gradually being commandeered by him, a turnabout that GOP establishment forces could have scarcely imagined just a few months ago.”

December 6, 2016 at 7:30 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Half of Detroit’s Votes Ineligible for Recount

December 6, 2016 at 7:00 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Michigan’s largest county voted overwhelmingly for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, but officials couldn’t reconcile vote totals for 610 of 1,680 precincts during a countywide canvass of vote results late last month,” the Detroit News reports.

“Most of those are in heavily Democratic Detroit, where the number of ballots in precinct poll books did not match those of voting machine printout reports in 59 percent of precincts, 392 of 662. According to state law, precincts whose poll books don’t match with ballots can’t be recounted. If that happens, original election results stand.”

Freedom Caucus Will Oppose GOP Obamacare Plan

December 5, 2016 at 10:07 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The Republican congressman who made his name as the instigator of John Boehner’s ouster last year was set to take the reins of the House Freedom Caucus on Monday night. And first up on Rep. Mark Meadows’ to-do list: Torpedoing GOP leadership’s tentative plans to take as long as three years to replace Obamacare,” Politico reports.

Meadows said the proposal will be “the first big fight I see coming for the Freedom Caucus.”

He added: “It should be repealed and replaced, and all of that should be done in the 115th Congress not left to a future Congress to deal with.”

Pentagon Buried Evidence of $125 Billion In Waste

December 5, 2016 at 9:14 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The Pentagon has buried an internal study that exposed $125 billion in administrative waste in its business operations amid fears Congress would use the findings as an excuse to slash the defense budget,” according to interviews and confidential memos obtained by the Washington Post.

“Pentagon leaders had requested the study to help make their enormous back-office bureaucracy more efficient and reinvest any savings in combat power. But after the project documented far more wasteful spending than expected, senior defense officials moved swiftly to kill it by discrediting and suppressing the results.”
