June 11, 2026 at 7:22 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Associated Press: “President Donald Trump’s planned UFC fight on the White House’s South Lawn has required a monumental effort from more than seven federal agencies, hundreds of staff working onsite daily and at least $60 million, according to a legal filing that offers a glimpse into the preparations.”

Trump Is ‘Pissed’ With Everyone

June 11, 2026 at 7:16 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Trump is “increasingly frustrated with everyone, from his own team to the Senate,” an operative close to the White House told Playbook.

Said the source: “He’s pissed, and people are not recognizing the level of pissed that he is.”

The operative added: “He does not like being put in a box. When you put him in a box, then Trump’s going to blow the box up.”

“Trump is increasingly turning to a small group of loyalists and informal advisers who can reach him directly amid a broader understaffed and closed-off White House operation.”

June 11, 2026 at 7:12 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Tom Steyer became the least successful self-funding candidate in modern U.S. political history this week, David Weigel observes.

Rob Pyers: “Between his run for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States and his 2026 run for California governor, Tom Steyer will have spent $557,781,638 for 0 delegates and a 3rd-place primary finish, respectively.”

Democrats Hold Double-Digit Lead on Generic Ballot

June 11, 2026 at 7:07 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

A new Emerson College national survey finds President Trump holds a 39% job approval rating, while 55% disapprove of the job the president is doing.

On the 2026 midterm election generic ballot, the Democratic candidate holds a 10-point lead over the Republican candidate, 50% to 40%.

The Races That Will Decide the Senate Are Toss Ups

June 11, 2026 at 7:05 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball: “We are making three Senate rating changes this week, all in favor of Democrats. North Carolina moves to Leans Democratic, and Alaska and Ohio are now Toss-ups.”

“This makes the Democrats’ path to the majority clearer, but we still favor Republicans in the overall race for the Senate.”

“Democrats need to win all four of our Toss-ups to get to a majority, while Republicans need just one to preserve a nominal 50-50 majority because they hold the vice presidential tiebreaker.”

“Democrats also have their work cut out for them in the four Toss-ups, albeit for different reasons. In Maine and Michigan, there are questions about the quality of the Democratic candidates. In Alaska and Ohio, meanwhile, the questions are more about Democrats’ ability to overcome each state’s pronounced GOP lean.”

Vote to Extend FISA Spy Power Likely Doomed

June 11, 2026 at 7:01 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“House Republicans on Thursday will move forward on what’s expected to be a futile effort to extend a key spy authority until early July, after President Trump’s pick for director of national intelligence rattled lawmakers,” CBS News reports.

Playbook: “The bill needs a two-thirds majority vote to pass, but most Democrats are holding firm on not moving forward while Pulte’s appointment remains in place. Barring any long-shot Senate move, the White House is preparing an executive order to cover some aspects of FISA if it expires.”

At Least Six States Say ‘No’ to Trump’s State Fair

June 11, 2026 at 7:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

NOTUS: “President Donald Trump’s big birthday bash for America is hitting more speedbumps, as at least six states plan to sit out the Great American State Fair.”

“Days after an exodus of musical acts, officials from Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Oregon told NOTUS they won’t officially send a delegation to the 16-day fair, one of the most high-profile celebrations of the nation’s 250th birthday this summer.”

“At least three other states — Maryland, Pennsylvania and Washington — remain uncommitted just two weeks before the fair is scheduled to open June 25 on the National Mall.”

Brett Kavanaugh Takes on a Starring Role in Senate Race

June 11, 2026 at 6:58 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

NBC News: “In a time of war, rising costs and Medicaid cuts, Democrats in Maine say another issue is motivating them in this fall’s Senate race: Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court eight years ago.”

“A pivotal vote by longtime Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine pushed Kavanaugh over the finish line in 2018 after she famously said he considered Roe v. Wade “settled law” — a comment that turned out to be wrong.”

A Youthful Crop of Politicians Run on Housing

June 11, 2026 at 6:53 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “As both political parties look for generational change, these candidates believe they have both an issue and their birth dates on their side. And they defy the usual politics. They include Republicans who argue against local control where cities and towns have made it hard to build new homes, and Democrats who argue for lower property taxes and less red tape on developers.”

Farmers Were Already Hurting

June 11, 2026 at 6:51 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

NOTUS: “Farmers are struggling. And while the Trump administration has insisted inflation woes will end when the war with Iran does, farmers and agricultural experts know it won’t be that simple.”

“Increased costs for energy and fertilizer are compounding a host of issues for farmers already running thin business margins.”

Fed Chief May Need to Defy Trump on Interest Rates

June 11, 2026 at 6:36 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“President Donald Trump’s new Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, previously argued that the Fed had room to cut interest rates, a message that made him attractive to a president who has long viewed cuts as a top priority,” the Washington Post reports.

“Only weeks into his role as chair, Warsh is confronting rekindled inflation that may eventually force him to do the opposite on rates, defying President Donald Trump, to exercise the Fed’s strongest tool to fight inflation.”

Europe Is Finally, Slowly Getting Its Act Together

June 11, 2026 at 6:34 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Bloomberg: “Ten years after Brexit, the European Union is finally, fitfully advancing fundamental changes meant to preserve its wealth and influence.”

“As the global order disintegrates and China drives deeper into Europe’s traditional markets, EU leaders say the bloc needs bigger everything to protect itself — bigger banks, bigger tech firms, bigger defense contractors, bigger investments. Startups need access to more money. Companies should merge across borders. Savers must invest across the continent and not at local banks. Countries should buy weapons together.”

“In short, Europe needs more Europe.”

Democrats Rethink Their Approach to Climate Change

June 11, 2026 at 6:33 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “Democrats and environmentalists are shifting their approach to climate change, as the economic fallout from war in the Middle East has reshuffled the politics of energy.”

“With voters worried about spiking gas prices and inflation, some of the party’s leaders argue that they should stop trying to throttle oil and gas, which heat the planet when burned. It’s a rejection of the approach taken during the Biden administration, which treated climate change as an existential threat and tried to stop new drilling and pipelines.”

Absent Lawmakers Leave Majority Up For Grabs

June 11, 2026 at 6:28 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“House Republicans have reached a boiling point over their colleagues who have skipped votes in recent months, leaving their razor-thin majority ungovernable and at times giving Democrats majority status,” NOTUS reports.

“On Tuesday, a few hours before a vote on a critical border security bill, Republicans expressed anger over how their ability to pass legislation would be made more difficult by the absence of GOP lawmakers who were back home campaigning.”

Top Jon Husted Aide Kept Working for Lobbying Firm

June 11, 2026 at 6:27 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

NOTUS: “A top aide to Republican Sen. Jon Husted of Ohio maintained a paid consulting relationship with an Ohio lobbying firm while serving as the senator’s senior adviser, according to a federal financial disclosure filing.”

“Sean Dunn, who has served as Husted’s senior adviser and counsel since February 2025, disclosed working as a consultant for Statehouse Impact Group — a Columbus-based government relations and lobbying firm.”

Republicans Ask FEC to Probe the Other Dan Sullivan

June 11, 2026 at 6:25 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The Dan Sullivan wars are entering a new phase,” Semafor reports.

“National Republicans are asking the Federal Election Commission to probe Dan J. Sullivan and an Alaska political operative over Sullivan’s run against Sen. Dan S. Sullivan, R-Alaska, according to a complaint first shared with Semafor.”

“The National Republican Senatorial Committee alleges that Amber Lee, who runs a “consulting firm with an exclusively progressive client roster” and worked for a pro-Mary Peltola super PAC, hasn’t been paid for her work helping launch Dan J. Sullivan’s campaign.”
