Russians Boosted Jill Stein to Help Trump Win

December 22, 2018 at 8:12 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Two days before the 2016 presidential election, an Instagram account called @woke_blacks posted a message in support of long-shot Green Party candidate Jill Stein,” NBC News reports.

Said the post: “The excuse that a lost Black vote for Hillary is a Trump win is bs. It could be late, but y’all might want to support Jill Stein instead.”

“According to a report commissioned by the Senate, the account was a fake, part of the Russian campaign to sway the 2016 presidential election in favor of Donald Trump. The report was one of two that leaked this week saying the Russian effort to disrupt the election specifically targeted black voters and harnessed America’s top social media platforms. But the reports contained another finding that was largely overlooked — the Russians also focused on boosting Stein’s candidacy through social media posts like the one from @woke_blacks.”

“Money that Jill Stein raised to recount votes in 2016 swing states is being used by her campaign to pay for legal bills stemming from the investigation of Russian interference in the last presidential election,” the Daily Beast reports.

“In June, the Daily Beast reported that the the U.S. Green Party candidate’s campaign, which raised $7.3 million for recounts in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, had in 2017 stopped disclosing its monthly spending with the Federal Election Commission. “

Stein Won’t Comply With Senate Russia investigation

April 27, 2018 at 7:25 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Jill Stein’s presidential campaign “is refusing to comply fully with a Senate intelligence committee request for documents and other correspondence, made as part of the committee’s probe into Russian activities in the 2016 election,” The Intercept reports.

“The Green Party campaign will agree to turn over some documents, but raised constitutional objections to the breadth of the inquiry, which was first made in November 2017, arguing that elements of it infringe on basic political rights enshrined in the First Amendment.”

Stein Won’t Guarantee Money Goes to Recount

November 25, 2016 at 5:46 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

LawNewz has the fine print on Jill Stein’s effort to raise as much as $7 million for a recount in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania:

We cannot guarantee a recount will happen in any of these states we are targeting. We can only pledge we will demand recounts in those states.

If we raise more than what’s needed, the surplus will also go toward election integrity efforts and to promote voting system reform.

Wait, Didn’t Jill Stein Cost Clinton the Presidency?

November 25, 2016 at 4:35 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

David Weigel on Jill Stein’s efforts to wage a recount in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania:

“Someone was going to tap into mounting liberal anger that — for the second time this century — a Democrat has lost the presidency while winning the popular vote. But Democrats can’t believe that the someone was Stein. In all three of the contested states, Stein campaigned for votes; in Michigan and Wisconsin, her total was greater than the gap between Clinton and Trump.”

“For Democrats, Stein’s role in the campaign resurrects some of the worst aspects of the campaign. It directs liberal anger toward a hopeless goal.”

Jill Stein Flies to Wrong City

September 2, 2016 at 1:34 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein was scheduled to speak Columbus, Ohio but accidentally went to Cincinnati instead, the Columbus Dispatch reports.

“Yes. You read that correctly. About 100 people are waiting at Schaaf Lawn on campus. It’s unclear if they will all hang around while Stein drives up from Cincinnati, but pizzas are being ordered to thank people for their patience.”

“It’s also unclear how and why she flew into the wrong airport.”
