‘Why Are You Doing This Interview?’

June 14, 2019 at 5:11 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Los Angeles Magazine asks Louise Linton, wife of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, why she was doing the interview after receiving so much bad press attention.

Said Linton: “I did lay low! I was deeply depressed for a while. But it sucks being perceived as a person that you’re not; it sucks being hated. Most people know me for the gloves or the plane or that awful Instagram post… Look, I made some rookie mistakes.’

She added: “I understand why people are angry about me getting off that government plane tagging fashion brands. It was a stupid thing to do. I get why everyone rolled their eyes at the opera gloves. But this caricature of me is the opposite of the girl I actually am. I run a business; I have several movies coming out. I can’t hide out for another five years.”

Louise Linton Is Back on Instagram

December 20, 2018 at 10:19 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin’s wife, Louise Linton, is back on Instagram, according to Page Six.

“Linton — something of a Marie Antoinette of the digital age — took a sabbatical from the site after she caused an uproar in August 2017 for listing the many designers she was wearing in a picture of her getting off a government plane.”

“Her new Instagram account is clearly a brand overhaul — featuring posts about her charity endeavors.”

Has Washington Been Too Mean to Louise Linton?

April 2, 2018 at 8:29 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Washingtonian: “Linton describes coming to Washington as like being sucked through a broken window in an airplane flying at 30,000 feet. Which is the 37-year-old’s very specific way of saying ‘it all happened so fast’ but, if we’re being honest, also suggests a very sudden death.”

“Linton will now have you know she has found her footing. She doesn’t feel bad about declining the occasional dinner invitation to stay in and play with her Chihuahuas. She has made peace with the whole Instagram fiasco … and has moved on — even if others haven’t. So perhaps it’s not exactly right to say that Linton still doesn’t get Washington. Perhaps the reality is that she understands precisely what’s expected of her. Perhaps it’s just that she no longer cares.”

Fueling Political Wire, One Cup at a Time

Every morning before the sun’s up, I sit down to work on Political Wire with a cup of Trade Coffee beside me.

It’s become part of the ritual — opening the laptop, scanning the news, and taking that first sip of a roast matched perfectly to my taste. Trade connects me with small roasters across the country, delivering beans that are always fresh and far better than what you’ll find at the grocery store.

If you love coffee as much as I do, use this link to get a free bag of coffee and taste the difference for yourself.

Louise Linton Is Really Very Normal

February 13, 2018 at 2:12 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Elle magazine profiles Louise Linton, the wife of Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin:

There are many other things Linton insists make her a regular person. She loves SoulCycle, for one. “That’s temple for me,” she says, dressed in a SoulCycle beanie and leggings. “This is my uniform. I wear SoulCycle stuff every single day of my life.” She’s fond of the expression super-duper. She is “super-duper” sorry for all of the missteps in her self-presentation. She finds the idea of doing a reality TV show, which many people have floated to her in recent months, to be “super-duper” scary.

Other ordinary-girl things: Linton loves calligraphy and big-band jazz. She enjoys taking cute selfies with Mnuchin using the Snapchat filters that make people look like puppies and piglets. Against her husband’s wishes, she shows them to me. (“I didn’t even know she had Snapchat,” her press rep says, faintly concerned.) She is obsessed with dogs, especially sick ones. So much so that she once made friends with a homeless man named Richard in a park in Los Angeles because she was concerned about the health of his dog. She wound up paying the vet bill.

Mnuchin’s Wife Boasts of Travel on Government Plane

August 22, 2017 at 9:38 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin’s wife, Louise Linton, boasted of flying on a government plane with her husband to Kentucky on Monday and then named the numerous fashion brands she wore on the trip in an unusual social media post that only became more bizarre minutes later,” the Washington Post reports.

“When someone posted a comment on Linton’s Instagram picture that criticized the way Linton touted the trip, the treasury secretary’s wife swung back hard, mentioning the extreme wealth she and her husband control.”

Said Linton: “Have you given more to the economy than me and my husband? Either as an individual earner in taxes OR in self sacrifice to your country? I’m pretty sure we paid more taxes toward our day ‘trip’ than you did. Pretty sure the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than you’d be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours.”

She added: “You’re adorably out of touch… Thanks for the passive aggressive nasty comment. Your kids look very cute. Your life looks cute.”
