Kelly Ayotte Won’t Run for Senate Either

After Gov. Chris Sununu (R) announced he will pass on the U.S. Senate race, WMUR reports that former Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) “will not run for any office in 2022.”

This is more bad news for Republicans and guarantees a messy GOP primary with Donald Trump trying to be kingmaker.

Sununu Will Not Run for U.S. Senate

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) announced that he will not run for U.S. Senate against Sen. Maggie Hassan (D) in 2022 and will instead seek re-election, WMUR reports.

Sununu had led Hassan in some early polling.

When asked if he’d consider running for president, Sununu said: “I haven’t ruled out going to Washington. Just not as senator right now.”

Sununu’s Decision Is Imminent

In other match ups, Hassan leads retired Gen. Don Bolduc (R) by a 47% to 42%. And she would run neck and neck against former Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R), in a rematch of the race that Hassan won five years ago.

Maggie Hassan Asserts Her Independence

Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) is trying “to establish her independent bona fides as she faces a tough re-election battle in New Hampshire next year,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“She has put daylight between herself and the Biden administration and signed on to high-profile bipartisan legislation while promoting the most popular aspects of Democrats’ agenda, like vaccine funds and stimulus checks. Hassan broke with the White House on its plan to end U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan, saying withdrawal shouldn’t be based on arbitrary deadlines.”

“And she was one of eight Democrats to vote against an amendment raising the hourly minimum wage to $15, a level sought by President Biden that passed in the House.”

A side note: Sununu blamed Donald Trump for the January 6 Capitol riots and could be denied the GOP nomination if Trump forces mobilize to block him.

Goddard spent more than a decade as managing director and chief operating officer of a prominent investment firm in New York City. Previously, he was a policy adviser to a U.S. Senator and Governor.
