“New York’s Democratic House members are taking a rare stand in a competitive primary, endorsing centrist John Avlon — who worked as a speechwriter for former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani before becoming a CNN anchor — over liberal rival Nancy Goroff in a Long Island race,” the New York Post reports.
“Reps. Tom Suozzi, Gregory Meeks and Dan Goldman are getting behind Avlon in the 1st congressional district, which covers the East End and other parts of Suffolk County.”

I’ll be holding a private conversation for members with John Avlon on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET.
Former Rep. George Santos (R-NY) announced that he was suspending his independent House bid, just over a month after entering the race, The Hill reports.

Former Rep. George Santos (R-NY) announced that “after today’s embarrassing showing in the House” he is leaving the Republican party and will run for Congress as an independent.
He added: “The Republican Party continues to lie and swindle its voter base. I in good conscience cannot affiliate myself with a party that stands for nothing and falls for everything.”
John Avlon (D), an author and former CNN political analyst, launched a bid Wednesday to oust freshman Rep. Nick LaLota (R-NY) in New York’s 1st congressional district, Newsday reports.
Playbook reports that Avlon has been advised for the last several months by former Rep. Steve Israel (D-NY), who had represented a neighboring district on Long Island.
John Avlon, the CNN anchor and senior political analyst, intends to run for Congress this year in New York’s 1st congressional district on a centrist, anti-Trump platform, Puck reports.
He officially left his job today to prepare for a run.
