Landrieu May Help Some GOP Senators with Re-Election

Former Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) plans to spend some of the nearly $150,000 left in her campaign fund to help former Senate colleagues run for re-election, the Shreveport Times reports.

Landrieu said she also will contribute some leftover campaign money to Republicans: “I’m not opposed to helping one or two of my Republican friends that have helped Louisiana — if they ask. They haven’t asked yet.”

She specifically named Rob Portman of Ohio, who is up for re-election next year, and Susan Collins of Maine, who is up in 2020.

Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland (D) is likely to launch a long-rumored U.S. Senate bid this week, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

“Strickland is expected to issue a morning statement, and all indications are that he will confirm his intentions to challenge Republican incumbent Rob Portman. It’s a decision that could pit two Washington veterans against each other in a nationally watched race that could have ramifications on which party controls Congress.”

Strickland Begins Raising Money for Senate Bid

Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland (D) has started raising money for a 2016 U.S. Senate bid, the Youngstown Vindicator reports.

“Strickland hasn’t formed a campaign committee yet… Those running for the Senate must form a committee and file the proper paperwork with the Federal Election Commission within 15 days of raising or spending $5,000.”

Ryan Will Not Run for Senate in Ohio

Although a reversal on his abortion stance last month prompted speculation that Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) would challenge Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) in next year’s election, the lawmaker said today he will not run for the seat, the Columbus Dispatch reports.

“He indicated he would seek another term in Congress.”

Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland (D) will run for the U.S. Senate next year, the Youngstown Vindicator reports.

“Attempts to reach Strickland, a Democrat, by The Vindicator today have been unsuccessful. However, those sources say he told political allies Thursday that he would run in the 2016 Democratic primary for the seat and was spending today talking to high-level donors about his decision.”

Goddard spent more than a decade as managing director and chief operating officer of a prominent investment firm in New York City. Previously, he was a policy adviser to a U.S. Senator and Governor.
