Murkowski Will Be Marked ‘Present’ on Kavanaugh

October 5, 2018 at 11:50 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

NBC News: “More than a 1,000 miles from Washington, wedding bells in Montana on Saturday will cause one Republican senator to change how her vote on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is tallied.”

“Sen. Lisa Murkowski said Friday she ultimately will be marked as ‘present’ rather than a ‘no’ when the Senate is expected to confirm Kavanaugh to the nation’s highest court. She will be using the ‘pair between senators’ procedure so that Republican Sen. Steve Daines can walk his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day.”

Said Murkowski: “It will not change the outcome of the vote. But I do hope that it reminds us that we can take very small, very small steps to be gracious with one another. And maybe those small, gracious steps can lead to more.”

Gianforte Offers Private Plane to Daines

October 5, 2018 at 1:33 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Rep. Greg Gianforte’s (R-MT) private plane could make it possible for Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) to be in two places at once Saturday, Roll Call reports.

“Daines plans to walk his daughter Annie down the aisle for her wedding in Bozman, Montana on the same night his yea vote may be required for Republicans to approve Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.”

Said Daines: “My good friend and colleague Greg Gianforte has come to save the day. He’s offered me use of his plane. I appreciate his generosity as well as his dedication to family and country.”

Daines Says He Won’t Be Available for Saturday Vote

October 4, 2018 at 7:19 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) “says he’s going to attend his daughter’s wedding back home in Montana on Saturday regardless of a possible weekend Senate vote on embattled Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh,” the Billings Gazette reports.

KTVQ: “Republicans could potentially be in a bind to confirm Kavanaugh if Daines is a no-show. With a 51-49 majority, the GOP can only afford to lose one vote, assuming all Democrats vote no. Vice President Mike Pence would cast the deciding vote in the case of a tie.”
