Liberal billionaire and philanthropist George Soros is turning over control of his Open Society Foundations to his 37-year-old son Alex, who told the Wall Street Journal that he’s “more political” than his father.
GOP Campaigns Take Notice of ‘Moms for Liberty’
Wall Street Journal: “Moms for Liberty is technically nonpartisan but largely attracts conservative women. What started as a grassroots entity of moms working to change their local school boards’ votes on coronavirus restrictions and curriculums has morphed into a nationwide network with more than 100,000 members and 275 chapters.”
“Members are pushing to revamp the U.S. education system with policies aimed at limiting teachings on gender, race and sex in schools; banning books they deem inappropriate; and placing limits on transgender students in school sports.”
“GOP presidential candidates are trying to tap into Moms for Liberty’s powerful networks to gain an edge in states that hold early nominating contests, including South Carolina, which is third behind Iowa and New Hampshire.”
CPAC Is Rocked by a Resignation
“A top leader in the organization that puts on CPAC, the highly influential conference of conservative leaders, resigned on Tuesday night, citing financial mysteries surrounding the organization’s leader,” New York Magazine reports.
“Bob Beauprez, the longtime treasurer of the American Conservative Union, said that he was not fully informed about money being paid for chairman Matt Schlapp’s legal defense against a lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault.”
Said Beauprez: “I cannot deliver a financial report at the upcoming board meeting with any confidence in the accuracy of the numbers.”
Advocacy Group Accidentally Disclosed Its Donors
An advocacy nonprofit group behind a campaign demanding Supreme Court “transparency” reforms on financial disclosures is in panic mode over accidentally leaking its own funders to the Washington Examiner.
Said Fix the Court executive director Gabe Roth: “I have only two foundations that give me money, and if their names become public, they’re never going to talk to me again, and Fix the Court is over. My screwup this morning probably cost me my job.”
Group Tied to Judicial Activist Spent $183 Million in a Year
“A deep-pocketed nonprofit organization founded by the conservative activist Leonard Leo gave away $182.7 million in a year’s time, a new tax filing shows, demonstrating how aggressively it has worked behind the scenes to prop up other groups and causes on the right,” the New York Times reports.
“The organization, Marble Freedom Trust, was formed in 2020 and was funded by a gift of more than $1.6 billion — an extraordinary windfall that resulted from a single donor’s contribution of 100 percent of a company’s shares before the company was sold, leaving Marble with the proceeds of the sale.”
Federalist Society Contact Led to $1.6 billion Donation
“Leonard Leo, who helped to choose judicial nominees for former President Donald Trump, obtained a historic $1.6 billion gift for his conservative legal network via an introduction through the Federalist Society, whose tax status forbids political activism,” Politico reports.
“The unusual arrangement in which Leo met his top donor through the prestigious Federalist Society — which describes itself as a nonpartisan educational organization — suggests closer ties between the society and Leo’s activist network than previously known.”
Harlan Crow Is a Big Donor to No Labels
New Republic: “Years before megadonor Harlan Crow was reading ProPublica stories about his close ties with Clarence Thomas, often seen as maybe the most partisan justice on the Supreme Court, he was doling out donations and referring friends to No Labels, the outside group that claims to offer an avowedly non-partisan approach to politics.”
Conservatives Plot ‘Woke’ Warnings for Products
“A conservative group is offering a new service that texts ‘Woke Alerts’ straight to the phones of grocery shoppers who want to know which brands are accused of taking political positions that are offensive to the right,” Axios reports.
Ginni Thomas Received $600K from Anonymous Donors
“A little-known conservative activist group led by Virginia ‘Ginni’ Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, collected nearly $600,000 in anonymous donations to wage a cultural battle against the left over three years,” a Washington Post investigation found.
“The previously unreported donations to the fledgling group Crowdsourcers for Culture and Liberty were channeled through a right-wing think tank in Washington that agreed to serve as a funding conduit from 2019 until the start of last year.”
“The Post’s investigation sheds new light on the role money from donors who are not publicly identified has played in supporting Ginni Thomas’s political advocacy, long a source of controversy. The funding is the first example of anonymous donors backing her activism since she founded a conservative charity more than a decade ago.”
Trump Group Trained Hill Staff on How to Attack Biden
A group closely aligned with Donald Trump helped organize a “bootcamp” for GOP congressional staff this past February, training them on how to conduct aggressive oversight of the Biden administration, Politico reports.
Trump Allies Buy Up Properties Near Capitol
“At first glance, the flurry of real estate sales two blocks east of the U.S. Capitol appeared unremarkable in a city where such sales are common. In the span of a year, a seemingly unrelated gaggle of recently formed companies bought nine properties, all within steps of one another,” the Washington Post reports.
“But the sales were not coincidental. Unbeknown to most of the sellers, the limited liability companies making the purchases — a shopping spree that added up to $41 million — are connected to a conservative nonprofit led by Mark Meadows, who was chief of staff to President Donald Trump.“
Kinzinger Launches Campaign Against Extremism
Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger’s political organization “is launching a nationwide campaign urging voters to reject extreme candidates on both sides of the aisle ahead of the 2024 election,” Politico reports.
“The centerpiece of the campaign is a nearly six-minute-long short film titled ‘Break Free,’ inspired by Apple’s ‘1984’ Super Bowl ad about escaping the conformity of non-Apple computers. In the political ad’s twist, people are forced to wear blue- and red-tinted goggles showing them divisive images and broadcasts from a ‘Big Brother’-type character until they take them off and escape. A monologue from Kinzinger urges Americans to reject political extremes.”
Judicial Activism Is Apparently Quite Lucrative
“A network of political non-profits formed by judicial activist Leonard Leo moved at least $43 million to a new firm he is leading, raising questions about how his conservative legal movement is funded,” Politico reports.
“Leo’s own personal wealth appeared to have ballooned as his fundraising prowess accelerated since his efforts to cement the Supreme Court’s conservative majority helped to bring about its decision to overturn abortion rights. Most recently, Leo reaped a $1.6 billion windfall from a single donor in what is likely the biggest single political gift in U.S. history.”
Staff Trashed Project Veritas Founder
A letter sent by 16 Project Veritas employee’s to the nonprofit’s board said founder James O’Keefe was a “power drunk tyrant” and a “diva,” who abused, bullied, demeaned, and over-worked his employees, and who caused concerns among donors, National Review reports.
One employee even accused O’Keefe of once taking a pregnant woman’s sandwich in court.
Said another: “We have all been on the receiving end of unnecessary, seemingly intentionally humiliating, and outright cruel behavior. James knows he’s in over his head, he’s scared, he’s overworked, manic on stress and drunk on the success of the last few weeks.”
James O’Keefe Forced Out of Project Veritas

Stacey Abrams Voting Group Paid Steep Legal Fees
“The voting rights organization founded by Stacey Abrams, Fair Fight Action, spent an additional $12 million in legal fees in 2021, bringing its running total to $37.7 million from 2019 through 2021 alone, according to new filings by the group,” Politico reports.
“A significant portion of the fees went to a single voting rights case that ended this September when a judge rejected the group’s final claims in a bench trial.”
