With former national security adviser Michael Flynn pleading guilty, it suggests he’s already been cooperating with Mueller. Flynn had to prove his value to Mueller before he was offered a plea deal. He wouldn’t be offered one unless his testimony could incriminate someone higher up, perhaps Jared Kushner or even President Trump himself.
That means it’s possible when Kushner met with the special counsel’s office in early November — to talk mainly about Flynn — Mueller may have already known everything Flynn knew. It’s quite possible he was just testing Kushner to see if Kushner would lie.
It’s also possible Flynn’s information may have also incriminated others, but we won’t know until the next indictment drops. The others caught up in the Russia probe won’t know either.
That’s the scary part for the White House.
Mueller surprised Trump’s lawyers with the indictments of Paul Manafort and Rick Gates. They were surprised again with the plea deal offered to George Papadopoulos. And they were surprised once again with Flynn’s deal.
Mueller can act at any time.
If Trump feels he’s in trouble, his only recourse left is to try to fire Mueller. Of course, if he does, that could be thing to finally turn Republicans against him.
