“Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) touched off considerable anger from his Republican members Tuesday with his efforts to block lawmakers who are new parents from being able to vote by proxy,” Axios reports.

Said Rep. Nick LaLota (R-NY): “Rep. Luna followed the rules and deserves a vote on the merits of her proposal.”

Said another House Republican: “I think that it’s awful. The speaker is definitely taking way too much power that he shouldn’t have.”

Punchbowl News: “This is the biggest gamble we’ve seen Johnson take on an internal political matter. He typically tries to avoid these confrontations because they divide Republicans.”
