Wall Street Journal: “Rep. Gerry Connolly’s decision to step aside marks the latest chapter in a long-running Democratic debate over age, health and seniority issues, which has fueled intramural fights over who gets to lead the party and what policies they should sell to voters, ranging from healthcare to college costs to foreign policy. Age and illness have also led to missed votes and vacancies: Five House Democrats have died since the start of last year.”
“The tension is particularly acute now. In the 2024 election, voters handed Republicans full control of Washington, in part due to concerns about former President Joe Biden’s age and capabilities. Now, some younger Democrats are pushing to oust older party lawmakers, citing the need to connect more closely with the next generation of voters and energetically spar with Trump.”
