Jimmy Kimmel Provokes White House by Pulling Interview

September 10, 2026 at 2:08 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The White House on Thursday accused ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel of ‘play-acting’ after the late-night host announced his interview with Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico would not air because of what he described as threats from the Trump administration,” MS NOW reports.

Said White House spokesman Davis Ingle: “Jimmy Kimmel is play-acting—as he often does—to create a false narrative about this administration’s policies. Chairman Carr has not threatened him regarding interviewing James Talarico, or any other candidate. Any media outlet blindly amplifying Kimmel’s egocentric delusion should insist on proof. Of which they will find none.”

Key Republicans Blindsided by Trump’s $5,000 Promise

September 10, 2026 at 2:02 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Key congressional Republicans were blindsided by President Donald Trump’s pledge to send $5,000 stimulus checks to American households if the party wins the midterm elections,” the Washington Sun reports.

“The $1.2 trillion proposal came as a surprise to senior Republicans across Washington, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune, who had not been briefed on the idea by the White House or consulted ahead of the announcement.”

Your Deadbeat President Is Never Giving You $5,000

September 10, 2026 at 1:57 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Mother Jones: “The year is 2026, and by now, you know, with clarity, that Donald Trump is a brazen liar with an unusually impressive record of promising free cash—only to rarely ever fulfill those lofty pledges. It is the personality of a deadbeat that long precedes his entry into politics…”

“‘It will be called the Trump Dividend,’ he said at Wednesday’s GOP convention in Dallas, as a beaming Scott Bessent, the Treasury secretary, applauded along.”

“The plan, as many have now weighed in, would cost at least $1 trillion and arrives just as alarm bells are clanging over a ballooning national debt and everyday expenses continuously get more expensive. But Trump’s latest pledge is as fantastical and mendacious as many of Trump’s previous promises of free cash.”

Appeals Court Rejects Lifting Block On Rule for Mail Ballots

September 10, 2026 at 1:40 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“A federal appeals court denied the Trump administration’s request to lift a lower court’s order that blocked new rules for mail ballots before the midterms, the latest twist in a case that has already reached the Supreme Court,” CBS News reports.

“In a nine-page opinion issued Thursday, a three-judge appellate panel in the First Circuit Court of Appeals said that the Trump administration failed to show that the new rule from the U.S. Postal Service would not cause ‘chaos and widespread voter disenfranchisement’ ahead of the November midterms if implemented, as a lower court judge found earlier this month.”

“Vivek Ramaswamy deleted a campaign video of himself taking swings in a batting cage after the clip became an online punch line and an eyewitness raised questions about how the footage was edited,” the Washington Sun reports.

Talarico Calls On Paxton to Address Epstein Survivors

September 10, 2026 at 1:26 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico appeared in Dallas Thursday with a group of Jeffrey Epstein survivors, accusing his Republican opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, of ignoring their push for greater transparency about the disgraced financier and sex offender,” Bloomberg reports.

How Trump Created a Bizarre and Risky Midterm Scenario

September 10, 2026 at 1:24 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Stephen Collinson: “America no longer seems to believe that he, alone, can fix it.”

“At his 2016 convention, Donald Trump billed himself as the unique force who could end America’s troubles. A decade later, at a midterm Republican pseudo-convention on Wednesday night, he sweetened the offer, with a pitchman’s promise of a $5,000 jackpot for every voter.”

“But polls reflect a wide gap between the president’s pledges and how voters view his performance. He’s therefore taking a huge risk by making the midterm elections all about himself.”

A View from the GOP Midterm Convention

September 10, 2026 at 1:00 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Rolling Stone: “Gallery images of Trump decorated the hallways along the suite and media levels. His face is plastered on every access badge. The official merch store was abundant in Trump’s signature MAGA hats, ‘Trump Was Right About Everything’ hats, and large stacks of Eric Trump’s book Under Siege. Fox News set up a broadcast center facing the stage, where a revolving door of GOP notables sat for interviews and panels.”

“And yet, as the hour of Trump’ s keynote address arrived, large swaths of the arena remained empty. American flags had been taped to seats in balcony sections, perhaps in an attempt to trick the eye into seeing occupancy where there was none.”

Fetterman’s Power Play

Making predictions in politics is a fool’s game.

But here’s one I won’t shy away from: Sen. John Fetterman’s (D-PA) video appearance at the Republican midterm convention shut the door on any chance of him winning reelection as a Democrat.

The Six Regions That Will Decide the House

September 10, 2026 at 12:30 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball: “The key districts in the battle for the House fit into a half-dozen regions scattered across the nation.”

“What follows is a path toward what Democrats need to do (or Republicans need to prevent) in order to win a bare, 218-217 majority.”

“For the record, I am hugely in favor of winning the midterms, and love much about this administration, but am strongly against bread and circus bribes.”

— Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale, quoted by Mediaite, on President Trump’s proposal to give each American $5,000 if Republicans win the midterm elections.
