Bloomberg: “Trump plans to declare a national emergency at the border, direct the Pentagon to deploy additional individuals to the border, and seek to end ‘catch and release,’ the policy by which migrants are released while awaiting a hearing on their asylum status.”

“The president-elect is also preparing a proclamation to end the asylum process, which officials say would allow the immediate removal of those in the country already awaiting a court hearing.”

“The administration will look to reinstate the ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy that requires those seeking asylum to stay in Mexico before their immigration court date, direct federal agencies to resume construction of the border wall, and declare gangs and cartels involved in human smuggling as terrorist organizations.”

Retired Army Gen. Mark Milley said he was “deeply grateful” to receive a preemptive pardon from outgoing President Joe Biden Monday, USA Today reports.

Said Milley: “After forty-three years of faithful service in uniform to our Nation, protecting and defending the Constitution, I do not wish to spend whatever remaining time the Lord grants me fighting those who unjustly might seek retribution for perceived slights.”

Taegan Goddard is the founder of Political Wire, one of the earliest and most influential political web sites. He also runs Political Job Hunt, Electoral Vote Map and the Political Dictionary.

Goddard spent more than a decade as managing director and chief operating officer of a prominent investment firm in New York City. Previously, he was a policy adviser to a U.S. Senator and Governor.

Goddard is also co-author of You Won - Now What? (Scribner, 1998), a political management book hailed by prominent journalists and politicians from both parties. In addition, Goddard's essays on politics and public policy have appeared in dozens of newspapers across the country.
