Trump Says He’ll Purge ‘Woke Generals’

October 5, 2024 at 7:58 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Donald Trump said he would create a task force to monitor “woke generals” and eliminate diversity trainings in the military, The Independent reports.

Trump Relies on Very Unconventional Ground Game

October 5, 2024 at 7:34 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

CNN: “Targeting irregular voters, teaching supporters to surveil polling places and bombarding states with voting-related lawsuits – this is the machine the Trump campaign has built for an election that many expect to hinge on just tens of thousands of ballots cast across seven battleground states. It’s a gamble, Trump’s campaign internally acknowledges, but one that they insist is built on data they have collected over nearly a decade and tested for the past six months…”

“The campaign’s untraditional strategy was on display when conservative commentator Tucker Carlson came to Grand Rapids last month. He urged his audience to download an app – 10xVotes – that promises to help them find the non-voting conservatives among their family and friends.”

Harris Is Running a Much Bigger Campaign

October 5, 2024 at 7:31 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Washington Post: “Harris is running a campaign about three times the size of Trump’s operation, according to recent spending reports. She has placed $263 million in ads between the end of the Democratic convention and Oct. 4, nearly 2½ times as much as the $109 million spent by Trump.”

“She boasts more staff, more volunteers, a larger surrogate operation, more digital advertising, a more sophisticated smartphone-based organizing program and extra money for extraneous bells and whistles typically reserved for corporate product launches and professional sports championships. A Harris drone light show recently flew over Philadelphia. Her rally attendees often get light-up pop-concert bracelets. There are even plans in the works for a late October infomercial to air on swing-state broadcast networks.”

“The scale of her financial advantage is larger than anything Trump faced in his two previous races for the White House. When combining campaign and national party spending, Harris is further ahead of Trump than Hillary Clinton at this point in 2016, Joe Biden at this point in 2020, or Barack Obama was ahead of his Republican opponents in his two races for the White House.”

Harris and Trump Brace for ‘Trench Warfare’

October 5, 2024 at 7:27 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “With polling averages showing all seven battleground states nearly tied, many Democrats believe their biggest advantage may be an extensive ground game operation that their party has spent more than a year building across the country. Mr. Trump’s campaign thinks that recent events — the escalating conflict in the Middle East and deadly hurricanes that have killed more than 200 people across the Southeast — will give them an edge in the final weeks.”

“In some ways, the two approaches mirror the final days of the 2016 race, when Hillary Clinton’s campaign boasted about a massive, data-driven field organization while Mr. Trump pressed a national message based on stoking anti-immigrant sentiment and improving the economy with a relatively meager staff and almost no field operation in the key states. Mr. Trump, of course, prevailed, helped by the F.B.I. director’s reopening of an inquiry into the Democratic nominee’s emails.”

“This time, Democrats have no such overconfidence. Although Mr. Trump and his party have lost or underperformed in every major election since then, many Democrats believe this year is one they could lose.”

Trump Returns to Butler

October 5, 2024 at 7:25 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Donald Trump appeared to be well on his way to the White House after he was shot nearly three months ago. He was coming off a dominating debate performance against Joe Biden, was leading in national polls and arrived at his nominating convention in Milwaukee a near-martyr,” Politico reports.

“Trump is returning to Butler, Pennsylvania, Saturday under markedly different political circumstances.”

“Vice President Kamala Harris’ candidacy upended not just Trump’s campaign, but Republicans’ belief that he could ride the support and goodwill he engendered following the attempt on his life straight back into the Oval Office.”

New York Times: Supports who saw a gunman attack Trump prepare to welcome him back.

USA Today: Trump returns to the same town he was shot in as mythology grows with his base.

Harris Signals Effort to Cast Trump as a Threat

October 5, 2024 at 7:19 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has launched into the final monthlong sprint to the Nov. 5 election by elevating its push to cast Donald Trump as a threat to democracy,” Axios reports.

“Trump’s repeated false claims about the 2020 election, his actions on Jan. 6, 2021 — and signs that he won’t accept this election’s results unless he wins — have led Harris’ allies to ramp up efforts to present the ex-president as unfit for office.”

A One-Two Punch of Good Economic News

October 5, 2024 at 7:15 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“A blowout jobs report Friday suggests the labor market is thriving, bucking fears that a recession was ahead. And the port strike — feared to cause widespread economic damage — is over,” Axios reports.

“In less than 24 hours, two risks hanging over the economy look to be solved, at least for now. That paves the way for less economic turmoil with just weeks to go until the election, where economic sentiment is expected to sway voters.”

Venture Capital Titan Dumps Trump

October 5, 2024 at 6:36 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Venture capitalist Ben Horowitz and his wife Felicia plan to make a ‘significant’ personal donation to Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign,” Axios reports.

“Horowitz and business partner Marc Andreessen stunned Silicon Valley in July by endorsing and donating to Donald Trump, saying he was the best candidate for technology startups.”

“At the time, President Biden was still running for re-election.”

“Horowitz announced his change of heart via an email sent on Friday to Andreessen Horowitz employees.”

Harris Joins ‘Call Her Daddy’ to Discuss Abortion Rights

October 4, 2024 at 9:03 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Kamala Harris joined host Alex Cooper on her popular “Call Her Daddy” podcast for a discussion on reproductive rights, The Hill reports.

“She sat Tuesday for the popular podcast among young, female listeners, and the episode is set to air next week, although the campaign did not specify the day.”

“The campaign called Cooper’s show a cultural phenomenon, noting it has millions of listeners and significant social media reach, which is why they saw it as a prime forum to discuss abortion access.”

Trump Pledges to Rename Base After Confederate General

October 4, 2024 at 8:59 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Donald Trump says that North Carolina’s Fort Liberty would once again become Fort Bragg if he’s reelected — less than two years after the base was renamed to remove the name of a Confederate general as part of efforts to reckon with the legacy of racism,” Politico reports.

Said Trump: “I think I just learned the secret to winning absolutely and by massive margins. I’m going to promise to you… that we’re going to change the name back to Fort Bragg.”

Harris to Ramp Up Negative Messaging Against Trump

October 4, 2024 at 5:43 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign is planning to more aggressively attack former President Donald Trump in the remaining weeks ahead of the November election, a new phase aimed at trying to move the small number of undecided voters her way,” NBC News reports.

“The change is driven, in part, by internal campaign data showing that sharper messaging against Trump could persuade some still-unsure Americans to support Harris… The effort is set to include new ads and harsher language on the campaign trail that highlights Trump’s past actions and rhetoric that Harris officials hope will tip these voters away from backing the former president.”

Biden Says He’s Concerned Election Won’t Be ‘Peaceful’

October 4, 2024 at 4:24 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Biden expressed concern the 2024 election will not be “peaceful” depending on the outcome, ABC News reports.

Said Biden: “I’m confident it will be free and fair. I don’t know whether it will be peaceful.”

He added: “The things that Trump has said and the things that he said last time out when he didn’t like the outcome were very dangerous. I noticed that the vice presidential Republican candidate did not say he would accept the outcome of the election. They haven’t even accepted the outcome of the last election. So, I am concerned about what they’re going to do.”

Trump Admitted He Lost Georgia in 2020

October 4, 2024 at 4:23 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Asked about his position in Georgia this November, Trump said he was confident he could win the state and offered a rare admission of his loss,” the New York Times reports.

Said Trump: “I won easily in 2016. We actually were very close last time.”

Trump Takes Aim at Legal Immigration

October 4, 2024 at 4:17 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Donald Trump, who is seeking re-election on the same hard line against undocumented immigrants that helped carry him to power in 2016, has said he is not opposed to legal immigration into the United States,” the New York Times reports.

“But remarks this week by the former president and his running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, signal that a second Trump administration would again aim to curb the legal channels that allow people to enter the country or obtain protection from deportation once inside its borders.”

Harris Makes a Play for Disaffected Republicans

October 4, 2024 at 3:37 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Semafor: “To the frustration of progressive Democrats, most of them biting their tongues until the election, the Harris-Walz campaign entered the election’s final stretch with the party’s most conservative messaging in years.”

“Harris didn’t just stand with Cheney; she called the former House GOP conference chair ‘an extraordinary national leader’ and ‘true patriot.’ She didn’t just recant her old pledge to ban fracking; she told Pennsylvania media that she cast ‘the tie-breaking vote to open up more fracking leases.’ And she’s promised to maintain the ‘most lethal fighting force in the world.'”

Jamie Dimon Has Not Endorsed Trump

October 4, 2024 at 2:51 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

JPMorgan Chase on Friday flatly denied that its CEO, Jamie Dimon, has endorsed Donald Trump for president, minutes after the Republican nominee claimed on social media that Dimon had endorsed him, CNBC reports.
