A new Remington Research Group (R) poll in Nebraska’s 2nd congressional district shows Kamala Harris leads Donald Trump in the district, 50% to 42%.

Jane Kleeb, the chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party, said she had seen at least one other poll recently that indicated Harris was leading outside of the margin of error.

“A group of lawyers with deep ties to the Republican Party scrambled over the weekend to rescue an effort to get independent presidential candidate Cornel West on the Arizona ballot, offering one of the clearest examples yet of the GOP’s extensive involvement in furthering the left-wing academic’s long-shot bid,” the AP reports.

Said West: “So much of American politics is highly gangster-like activity. I have no knowledge of who they are or anything — none whatsoever. We just want to get on that ballot. And that’s the difficult thing.”

Aaron Blake: “If there’s to be a lasting moment from a politician in Monday’s program — beyond Biden’s de facto farewell after a lifetime in politics — it’s likely to be Ocasio-Cortez’s rousing speech…”

“Ms. Harris’s choice of venue is the latest in a series of aggressive moves that seem designed to get under Mr. Trump’s notoriously thin skin.”

“Crowd size is one of the former president’s most reliable bugbears. Ever since 2016 — when his huge rallies seemed to foretell his unexpected victory against Hillary Clinton — Mr. Trump has been obsessed with how many people show up to hear him speak and how many come to hear his opponents.”

“If Ms. Harris is able to fill up Fiserv Forum’s roughly 18,000 seats, it could ignite another angry reaction from Mr. Trump.”

Peter Baker: “When the crowd members in the United Center first chanted, ‘Thank you, Joe! Thank you, Joe!’ on Monday night, President Biden looked down, fought back tears and soaked in the admiration.”

President Biden was both forceful and defiant in his speech to the Democratic convention, hailing Vice President Kamala Harris and the accomplishments of his administration, the New York Times reports.

Perhaps most striking was that Biden’s anger at Donald Trump was palpable. This election is very personal for him.

It was also a very long speech, stretching well past midnight on the East Coast.

In the end, Biden offered his full endorsement of Harris saying that picking her to be his vice president was the best decision he’s ever made in his career.

Said Biden, in closing: “America, I gave my best to you.”

President Biden, the headline speaker at the Democratic National Convention tonight, will officially pass the torch to Vice President Kamala Harris.

Jill Biden and Hillary Clinton are also scheduled to address the crowd.

Teamsters President Sean O’Brien says he has been ghosted by Democrats after his request to speak this week at their convention, Axios reports.

The Teamsters boss became the first-ever union president to speak at GOP convention last month, delivering fiery remarks before a party that has a track record of opposing labor movements.

The Bulwark reports that rank-and-file Teamsters retirees have been invited to attend the DNC, a sign that O’Brien’s snub is personal.

Tom Nichols: “One of the great myths of American politics is that detailed policy positions are crucial to winning elections. Yes, policy matters in broad strokes: Candidates take general positions on issues such as taxes, abortion, and foreign policy. Rather than study white papers or ponder reports from think tanks, however, most voters count on parties and candidates to signal broad directions and then work out the details later.”

“In the 2024 election, policy details matter even less than they usually do. Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, seem to have figured this out. Harris has been blasted by Republicans for avoiding the press, and some journalists have griped that she hasn’t sat down for a long interview and didn’t make a major policy speech before this past Friday. But Harris and Walz seem to be making a strategic choice—and for now, a good one.”

Donald Trump lashed out at Vice President Kamala Harris, criticizing her father, falsely stating that she was recruiting undocumented immigrants to vote and claiming Democrats overthrew President Biden as part of an illegal “coup,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

Said Trump: “Kamala has no idea what the hell she’s doing. Her father is a Marxist professor, and I believe he taught her well… I wonder if they knew that when they did an overthrow, or a coup, on Joe Biden?”
