Washington Post: “Republicans around Trump initially thought the raid could help him politically, but they are now bracing for revelations that could be damaging.”

Even Ari Fleischer is puzzled: “One thing I can’t wrap my arms around: If Trump had classified documents, why didn’t he give them back?”

“Maybe he thought they were declassified. Maybe he thought it was government overreach. But if, for whatever reason, you have a classified document at home, you give it back.”

Associated Press: “It’s unclear at this point how much information would be included in the documents, if made public, or if they would encompass an FBI affidavit that would presumably lay out a detailed factual basis for the search. The department specifically requested the unsealing of the warrant as well as a property receipt listing the items that were seized, along with two unspecified attachments.”

Washington Post: “The warrant would probably reveal a general description of what material agents were seeking at Mar-a-Lago and what crimes they could be connected to. A list of the inventory that agents took from the property would also be released. Details could be limited, however, particularly if the material collected includes classified documents.”

Playbook: “Trump and his family watched the FBI search from New York via feeds from the security cameras at Mar-a-Lago.”

“Former President Donald Trump said he does not oppose a federal court in Florida unsealing a search warrant that authorized FBI agents to search his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida,” USA Today reports.

Said Trump: “Not only will I not oppose the release of the documents. I am going a step further by encouraging the immediate release of those documents.”

Wall Street Journal: “Mr. Trump was given a copy of the warrant and a list of items that were taken during the search and his aides had previously declined requests to release them.”

“Anything short of finding the nuclear codes at Mar-a-Lago is going to hugely backfire on the Biden administration.”

The FBI search at Mar-a-Lago was part of an effort to account for documents said to relate to some of the most highly classified U.S. programs, the New York Times reports.

“Investigators had been concerned about material from what the government calls ‘special access programs,’ a designation typically reserved for extremely sensitive operations carried out by the United States abroad.”

“Government officials have expressed concern that allowing highly classified materials to remain at Mr. Trump’s home could leave them vulnerable to efforts by foreign adversaries to acquire them.”

“Classified documents relating to nuclear weapons were among the items FBI agents sought in a search of former president Donald Trump’s Florida residence on Monday,“ the Washington Post reports.

“Experts in classified information said the unusual search underscores deep concern among government officials about the types of information they thought could be located at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club and potentially in danger of falling into to the wrong hands.”
