Trump Pushes Allies Away and Into Each Other’s Arms

June 11, 2025 at 12:17 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “America’s closest allies are increasingly turning to each other to advance their interests, deepening their ties as the Trump administration challenges them with tariffs and other measures that are upending trade, diplomacy and defense.”

“Concerned by shifting U.S. priorities under President Trump, some of America’s traditional partners on the world stage have spent the turbulent months since Mr. Trump’s January inauguration focusing on building up their direct relationships, flexing diplomatic muscles and leaving the United States aside.”

“This emerging dynamic involves countries such as Britain, France, Canada and Japan — often referred to by international relations experts as ‘middle powers’ to distinguish them from superpowers like the United States and China.”

Meanwhile, Trump told the New York Post he thinks he could make amends with Musk, but doing so is not a priority for him.

Said Trump: I guess I could, but you know, we have to straighten out the country. And my sole function now is getting this country back to a level higher than it’s ever been. And I think we can do that. I think we’re going to do it easily.”

Trump Officials Now Fear Elon’s ‘Burn Book’

June 11, 2025 at 11:59 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Rolling Stone: “It’s been less than a week since the explosive, extremely public breakdown in relations between Donald Trump, the most powerful person on the planet, and Elon Musk, the world’s richest man. Trump and his team have weighed various forms of vengeance against the billionaire for turning on the president and his agenda — but some have started to think twice about making an enemy of the man they granted largely unrestrained access to the inner workings of the administration.”

“In the days since the MAGA melodrama erupted, six Trump advisers, senior administration officials, and others close to the president have told Rolling Stone that an anxiety shared among some of the Trump brass is that Musk may know too much — and that it could come back to bite them considering his bitter, explosive exit.”

“One Trump adviser wondered aloud what might be in ‘Elon’s burn book,’ and if the Tesla chief would ever feel compelled to deploy its contents if the name-calling between Trump and Musk, or potential retribution from the administration against Musk, ever got truly out of hand.”

Trump’s Military Parade May Not Get Much Coverage

June 11, 2025 at 11:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Variety: “Does a parade meant to celebrate the nation truly exist if it can’t get on national broadcast TV?”

“Mainstream TV-news outlets seem divided over how to cover an extravagant display of military might along the streets of Washington, D.C. from the Trump administration. A June 14 parade and accompanying festivities meant to call attention to the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army will be something to see, with three kinds of helicopters; Bradley vehicles; a fireworks display; and a parachute jump by the Golden Knights demonstration team.”
