Musk’s Tactics Are Beginning to Unnerve Republicans
“Republicans in Congress have repeatedly said they’re broadly fans of Elon Musk’s efforts to cut government waste. But the tech billionaire’s latest move to drastically slash the federal workforce in the name of reducing government spending is wearing thin on lawmakers,” NOTUS reports.
Said Sen. James Lankford (R-OK): “Did not look very well coordinated. Several agencies immediately stepped out and said, ‘Hey, not not us, not our people.’ And so we’re trying to figure out, where was that, where did that come from and why did that go out that way?”

“Tonight’s showdown vote on the House GOP budget plan is hanging in the balance after a tough old day for Mike Johnson on Capitol Hill,” Politico reports.
“The speaker was locked in talks until late yesterday evening with holdouts from both wings of the Republican Party who remain skeptical of his outline plan for tax and spending cuts — plus border, energy and defense policy — via a single reconciliation bill. Johnson left the Capitol last night insisting a vote on his budget plan should still hit the floor of the House this evening.”
Punchbowl News: “Johnson and his top lieutenants are trying to corral a one-seat House Republican majority around a budget resolution with $4.5 trillion for tax cuts and $1.5 trillion-plus in spending cuts to satisfy a president who sided with them over the new Senate GOP majority. Yet rank-and-file House Republicans and top senators are jamming Johnson from every which way as a huge floor vote looms today.”
Military Contractors Want to Take Over Mass Deportations
“A group of prominent military contractors, including former Blackwater CEO Erik Prince, has pitched the Trump White House on a proposal to carry out mass deportations through a network of ‘processing camps’ on military bases, a private fleet of 100 planes, and a ‘small army’ of private citizens empowered to make arrests,” Politico reports.
“The blueprint — laid out in a 26-page document President Donald Trump’s advisers received before the inauguration — carries an estimated price tag of $25 billion and recommends a range of aggressive tactics to rapidly deport 12 million people before the 2026 midterms, including some that would likely face legal and operational challenges.”
