Mike Johnson Begins the Arm Twisting

February 24, 2025 · 5:28 pm ET · Leave a Comment

“Speaker Mike Johnson and the House Republican leadership are in an all-out push to lock up the votes to pass the GOP’s budget resolution Tuesday, as several lawmakers express skepticism about agreeing to slash hundreds of billions of dollars from key social safety net programs,” Punchbowl News reports.

“Johnson is expected to hold a round of meetings in his Capitol office suite this evening, looking to convince vulnerable and swing district Republicans that they should embrace the resolution, which cuts over $1.5 trillion from government spending while leaving $4.5 trillion in space for tax cuts.”
