A More Devious Explanation for Trump’s Blue State Rallies

October 9, 2024 at 5:42 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Donald Trump’s unorthodox plan to hold rallies in solidly Democratic states over the next month might make sense as a campaign strategy.

But it could also potentially increase his odds of stealing the election.

Why Trump Is Holding Rallies in Blue States

October 9, 2024 at 4:16 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Donald Trump is embarking on an unorthodox strategy by holding large campaign rallies in solidly Democratic states, such as California, Colorado, Illinois and New York. It’s odd because he has little chance of winning any of these states.

Here’s what I think is going on:

October 9, 2024 at 9:47 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Kamala Harris is very likable.

That’s the main takeaway from her appearances this week on the “Call Me Daddy” podcast, “The View”, the “Howard Stern Show” and “Late Night with Stephen Colbert.”

The New York Times Finally Notices

October 9, 2024 at 8:10 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

After months of hammering President Biden over his age, the New York Times finally explored how Donald Trump’s increasingly “angry and rambling” speeches may be a sign he’s getting too old.

Here’s a brief excerpt:

‘Watch His Rallies’

October 8, 2024 at 10:02 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

At the end of her “60 Minutes” interview last night, Kamala Harris was asked about Donald Trump backing out of his previously scheduled interview with the program.

She had simple advice for viewers who wanted to hear more from her opponent: “Watch his rallies.”

There’s Only So Much We Can Learn from the Polls

October 8, 2024 at 9:23 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

If the polls are correct and the election were held today, Kamala Harris would pull out a narrow win.

But nobody trusts the polls, right?

Platforming the Big Lie

October 7, 2024 at 9:58 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

In an interview on Meet the Press over the weekend, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) refused once again to say that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, preferring to say instead that “Biden was elected.”

Here’s the exchange with host Kristen Welker:

Trump Skips the ’60 Minutes’ Interview

October 7, 2024 at 9:28 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

When President Biden declined the traditional pre-game Super Bowl interview earlier this year, it launched weeks of speculation that he might be too old to run for president again.

There’s no doubt the decision created a perception that Biden might not be up to the job. That was cemented when he performed poorly in his June debate with Donald Trump.

Why Is This Not the Top Story?

October 3, 2024 at 9:47 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Judge Tanya Chutkan yesterday released a lightly-redacted motion by Special Counsel Jack Smith, presenting detailed arguments — and plenty of new evidence — explaining how Donald Trump attempted to overturn the 2020 election.

The key points in the filing:

A Few More Thoughts on Last Night’s Debate

October 2, 2024 at 8:43 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

There’s been plenty of analysis of last night’s debate — including my own — and most agrees it probably won’t make much of a difference in the presidential race.

But I have a few more observations that have gone mostly unmentioned:

My Reaction to the Vice Presidential Debate

October 1, 2024 at 10:48 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Compared to the rest of this campaign, that was actually a real and civil debate. It focused more on policy specifics than anything we’ve seen so far — and I’d even say it was somewhat enlightening.

J.D. Vance presented himself as a friendlier, less fiery candidate than the one who often appears on Fox News and Newsmax. He avoided making personal attacks on Tim Walz, instead trying to pin the country’s problems on Kamala Harris and her policies.

Violence as a Political Weapon

October 1, 2024 at 12:30 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Donald Trump’s enthusiasm for violence — including torture, extra-judicial murder and shooting both migrants and protesters — has been a consistent theme of his politics since he first announced he was running for president.

That’s why Trump’s remarks over the weekend calling for “one real rough, nasty day” of police violence barely made headlines.

An Unsatisfying Solution to Fact Checking a Debate

October 1, 2024 at 9:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

CBS News put moderators Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan in a bad position ahead of tonight’s vice presidential debate.

The network says it will be “up to the candidates” to fact-check each other and that moderators will give them time to do so.
