A source familiar with Donald Trump’s thinking told Politico that the billionaire businessman “was reluctant to add new layers of policy experts now, feeling it would only muddy his populist message that has been hyperfocused on illegal immigration, trade and fighting Islamic extremists.”

Said the person: “He doesn’t want to waste time on policy and thinks it would make him less effective on the stump. It won’t be until after he is elected but before he’s inaugurated that he will figure out exactly what he is going to do and who he is going to try to hire.”

“Donald Trump’s top advisers spent much of Monday at Republican National Committee headquarters in Washington for a series of private meetings with RNC leaders, where they began to coordinate the party’s strategy and operations for the general election,” the Washington Post reports.

“Topics addressed during the Capitol Hill talks included finance, communications, opposition research, field operations, and data sharing, according to several Republican officials familiar with the sessions.”

Politico: “A week after vanquishing his sixteenth and final Republican rival en route to the party’s nomination, Trump is still in battle mode. From hitting the media for apparently misrepresenting his policy proposals to defending his personal and pointed attacks on the Clintons, the Manhattan real-estate mogul is throwing everything against the wall. And rather than reaching out to unify a GOP that is deeply divided over his candidacy, he dismissed the very idea as irrelevant.”
