“It’s April 2021, and Donald Trump still can’t get past his grudge with Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey for refusing to overturn the 2020 election results in his state,” the Daily Beast reports.

Trump “has gone so far as to tell some close associates that if Ducey decided to run for Senate and managed to lock up the Republican nomination in 2022, he would consider traveling to Arizona to campaign for Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly.”

Trump might help Republicans snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in 2022.

“Libertarian tech titan Peter Thiel is spending $10 million to boost one of his closest allies in next year’s Arizona Senate race, a contest crucial to the fight for the majority,” Politico reports.

“The billionaire is coming out in support of Blake Masters, the chief operating officer of Thiel Capital and the president of the Thiel Foundation, who is expected to soon enter the race.”

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich (R) is leaning toward challenging Sen. Mark Kelly (D) in 2022 after initially moving toward a run for governor, the Washington Examiner reports.

Brnovich has won two statewide elections in Arizona, which means he has survived two Republican primaries — including one since former President Donald Trump came to dominate the party.

“Sen. Mark Kelly’s re-election campaign hauled in nearly $4.4 million during the first quarter of 2021, bolstering his war chest in a top-tier race that could help decide control of the U.S. Senate in 2022,” the Arizona Republic reports.

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) — one of former President Trump’s most vocal supporters in Congress and chair of the House Freedom Caucus — told The Hill he is weighing a run for Senate in Arizona in 2022.

Said Biggs: “I’m kicking the tires, we’re looking at it, talking to people, seeing what it would look like, talking about how much it would be and trying to gauge how much support I might have.”

Democrat Mark Kelly has defeated Republican Sen. Martha McSally in Arizona, NBC News projected on Friday, giving Democrats a Senate pickup in the state.

President Trump offered a not-very warm welcome to Sen. Martha McSally (R) on Wednesday at his campaign rally in Arizona, NBC News reports.

Said Trump: “Martha, just come up fast. Fast. Fast. Come on. Quick. You got one minute! One minute, Martha! They don’t want to hear this, Martha. Come on. Let’s go. Quick, quick, quick. Come on. Let’s go.”

“The plane that Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ) climbs into in a recent campaign ad is a former Norwegian Air Force jet that is now privately owned and is a model that hasn’t been used by the United States Air Force since the 1980s,” the Arizona Mirror reports.

Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ) has been trailing retired astronaut Mark Kelly (D), in most public polling. However, an internal poll for the McSally campaign obtained by Hotline showed the race within the margin of error.

The internal poll found Kelly ahead by 2 points, 48% to 46%.

“In a key battleground state that is changing rapidly, Martha McSally is banking on the Republican faithful in the November election,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“Ms. McSally, an appointed senator who is now running to keep her seat, was the first woman to fly a fighter jet in combat. She sued the secretary of defense over a policy that service women wear Muslim clothing in the Middle East. She is a survivor of sexual assault and discrimination. But on a recent campaign day, she didn’t go into detail on her biography or make any clear overtures to the moderate voters who may help decide the race.”

“Instead, her focus was on rallying Republican voters to keep America from going in what she says is a dangerous direction, if Democrats take power. During a 14-hour day this month—which included a trip to see the wall along the southern border, two Republican Party events, door-knocking and a meeting with small businesses owners—she said her seat is key to Republican control of the Senate and the president’s agenda.”

U.S. Senate candidate Mark Kelly (D) apologized for an offensive comment he made two years ago while joking about the physiological changes his twin brother experienced after spending a year in space, the Arizona Republic reports.

Said Kelly: “I think the word hasn’t gotten out how bad it is for him. You know, it’s gotten so bad, that we recently had to release him back into the wild,” he continued to a laughing crowd.

He added: “He’s like halfway between an orangutan and a Howler Monkey. We’ve even changed his name to Rodrigo. He lives in the woods.”

“Senior political advisers to President Trump warned Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell Thursday that Republican Sen. Martha McSally is falling dangerously behind in the critical swing state of Arizona,” Politico reports.

“Trump’s campaign team was meeting with the president at the White House to discuss the state of play in a handful of battleground states. Toward the end of the meeting, Trump pulled McConnell, who was at the White House to meet with him on another matter, into the Roosevelt Room. The discussion turned to Arizona, where recent polling has shown Trump and McSally trailing.”

The Lincoln Project, a super PAC run by disaffected Republicans, is targeting Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ) in a new attack ad, its first major foray into down-ballot races.

Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ) “has a new campaign ad featuring a cancer survivor who talks about how her “path collided” with McSally, whom she describes as a champion for protecting those with pre-existing medical conditions,” the Arizona Republic reports.

“The emotional television ad doesn’t disclose that the woman worked for McSally’s congressional office and as a campaign staffer over the years or that in 2014 she helped defend McSally’s attacks on the Affordable Care Act and roll its coverage protections back.”
