Worried about “Republican-on-Republican violence,” top party donors are taking action with one seeking to block businessman Donald Trump from the debate stage, the AP reports.

Said Republican donor John Jordan: “Someone in the party ought to start some sort of petition saying, ‘If Trump’s going to be on the stage, I’m not going to be on there with him.’ I’m toying with the idea of it.”

“I wanna talk about one person who’s been there for me. His name is Donald.”

Former New York Gov. George Pataki challenged Donald Trump to a one-on-one debate on immigration, saying he wants to hear a real plan for reform from Trump, not “name calling” and “insults,” CNN reports.

Donald Trump doubled down on his recent remarks about Mexican immigrants being “rapists” and criminals, making the additional claim that “tremendous infectious disease is pouring across the border,” TPM reports.

“Accusing his critics of distorting his words, Trump’s statement did nothing to appease them after a days-long mass exodus of business partners and fellow Republicans trying to distance themselves from his comments.”

Donald Trump appears to have deleted a tweet he quoted that suggested Jeb Bush has to like “Mexican illegals” because of his wife, Columba, who is Mexican, The Wrap reports.

“The tweet appeared to be live for 24 hours before Trump deleted it.”

Gerald Seib: “Mr. Trump is important for two reasons: first for the damage he can do to the Republican Party, and second for the useful lesson he can teach that same party. The potential damage comes largely in the harm he can do—indeed, already may have done—to Republicans’ crucial mission of building better bridges to Hispanics. The lesson comes by way of illustrating the depths of populist anger running through sectors of the GOP right now.”

The Guardian: “Nearly three weeks after the business tycoon announced his candidacy to be US president with a speech in which he claimed Mexican immigrants were criminals whose presence was undermining American greatness, the row refuses to die.”

“Outrage has been widespread among the Mexican people, from those struggling to make a living on the streets to some of the richest businessmen in the world. In a country fraught with divisions over how to create the jobs and security necessary to make mass migration unnecessary, opposition to Trump’s remarks has provided rare unity.”

Donald Trump admitted he didn’t think the corporate backlash to his inflammatory comments about Mexican immigrants would be “quite this severe,” CBS News reports.

Said Trump: “I knew it was going to be bad because I was told this. All my life I have been told this: If you are successful, you don’t run for office. I didn’t know it was going to be quite this severe, but I really knew it was going to be bad.”

“The crime is raging and it’s violent. And if you talk about it, it’s racist.”

“Hispanic leaders are warning of harm to Republican White House hopes unless the party’s presidential contenders do more to condemn Donald Trump, a businessman turned presidential candidate, who’s refusing to apologize for calling Mexican immigrants rapists and drug dealers,” the AP reports.

“Trump’s comments, delivered in his announcement speech last month, have haunted the GOP for much of the last two weeks, and dominated Spanish-language media. It’s bad timing for a Republican Party that has invested significantly in Hispanic outreach in recent years, given the surging influence of minority voters. Yet several Republican candidates have avoided the issue altogether, while those who have weighed in have declined to criticize Trump as strongly as many Hispanic leaders would like.”

Vice News reports that as Donald Trump’s empire “hemorrhages money, we’re getting closer than ever to learning the details of his business practices. In the past, Trump’s net worth has been notoriously hard to pin down, and experts have said it’s likely a much lower number than he suggests. But earlier this week, a federal judge ruled that Trump will have to clarify some of his murky finances, as part of an ongoing lawsuit over a ‘university’ Trump named after himself.”

Donald Trump, who owns several golf course, told Fortune that he feels “golf should be an aspirational game, something people aspire to.”

When asked whether that viewpoint was elitist, Trump said that “perhaps that’s what golf needs. Let golf be elitist.”
