Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), who made last month’s Democratic debate stage but has not registered over 1 percent in polling, says he is suspending his presidential bid, the Washington Post reports.

Swalwell will face a primary challenge in his bid for reelection to the House.

Swalwell May Be Dropping Out of Presidential Race

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) may be ending his campaign for president on Monday afternoon. His campaign announced a press conference Sunday night amid rumors the congressman will drop out of the race, the East Bay Citizen reports.

Last week, Swalwell’s campaign abruptly cancelled two days of independence day events in New Hampshire.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) “sees June as his time to shine — but if America doesn’t fall in love with the four-term congressman, he’s still open to running for a fifth term in the House,” The Hill reports.

Said Swalwell: “I’m running for president right now. Don’t have to make that decision until December. We need this field to start shrinking so candidates can distinguish themselves. I hope to be part of the field as it shrinks. If I don’t, I’m going to be realistic about my options.”

The Atlantic: “There are more long-shot Democrats running for president this year than there have been total candidates in previous campaigns—and next week, Eric Swalwell is joining the pack. The California congressman and frequent cable-news guest on all things related to President Trump and Russia will announce his presidential plans in an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.”

“But he won’t be running on Russia, or on the continuing fallout from the Mueller report and the Barr letter. Swalwell will center his campaign on gun control.”

“The California Democrat, a 38-year-old four-term congressman from the Bay Area, has made five trips to Iowa and three trips to New Hampshire since the 2018 midterms. He will return to the Granite State Saturday.”

Goddard spent more than a decade as managing director and chief operating officer of a prominent investment firm in New York City. Previously, he was a policy adviser to a U.S. Senator and Governor.

Goddard is also co-author of You Won - Now What? (Scribner, 1998), a political management book hailed by prominent journalists and politicians from both parties. In addition, Goddard's essays on politics and public policy have appeared in dozens of newspapers across the country.
