The super-PAC supporting Gov. John Kasich’s campaign for president is invoking Donald Trump’s iconic helicopter in a new TV commercial that will target New Hampshire voters this week, Bloomberg reports.

Gov. John Kasich is clarifing his recent comment about Latinos, saying they “occupy jobs from top to bottom,” Politico reports.

The GOP presidential hopeful’s clarification comes after he stirred controversy with a comment that critics said reduced Latino immigrants to a stereotype of hotel maids.

“I look at our friends in the Latino community as people that ought to be voting Republican. I mean, they’re very strong family. We could all learn a little from them about the importance of family, couldn’t we? Because they are great, they are God-fearing, hard-working folks. And a lot of them do jobs that they’re willing to do. That’s why, in a hotel, you leave a little tip, you know?”

Gov. John Kasich filmed television ads used by a super PAC supporting him before he officially became a presidential candidate, WMUR reports.

Said a spokeswoman: “In order for there to be coordination, there must be a candidate, and John Kasich was not a candidate for president when the footage referenced in this complaint was filmed. As with all of the ads that have aired to date, the footage featuring Gov. Kasich was filmed before any decision to seek the presidency. Additionally, the governor himself does not say anything about running for president.”

“With front-runner Donald Trump seen as too much of a wild card and Jeb Bush faltering in opinion polls, establishment Republicans are gravitating toward John Kasich, the Ohio governor who vows to shake up their demographically challenged party if he wins its nomination for U.S. president,” Reuters reports.

“If history can be a guide, Kasich may best fit the mold of Sen. John McCain, a self-described maverick who won the party’s nomination in 2008 only to lose the election to Barack Obama. For his part, McCain parted from Republican Party orthodoxy on the hot-button issue of immigration. He ran strong in the early nominating contest in New Hampshire. Kasich’s top strategist, John Weaver, is a veteran of McCain’s team.”

Caitlin Huey-Burns: “Over the past month, John Kasich has been moving in on Bush’s turf, gaining ground in the must-win state of New Hampshire. The Ohio governor is positioning himself as moderate Republicans’ viable alternative to Bush, with a more current resume and less baggage, while refraining from going after his Florida rival.”

“Bush and Trump aren’t really going after the same voters, but he and Kasich are definitely doing so.  In a field this crowded, the true threat comes not from the polar opposite candidate, but the one trying to be most like you.”

A new Quinnipiac poll in Ohio finds John Kasich’s standing continues to rise to an all-time high among voters as he campaigns for the Republican presidential nomination. Voters approved of Kasich’s job performance 61% to 28%, with even stronger numbers among Republicans at 84% to 10%.

“I think abortion is an important issue, but I think there’s many other issues that are really critical. Early childhood. Infant mortality. The environment. Education. I think we focus too much on just one issue, and now that the issue of gay marriage is kind of off the table, we’re kind of down to one social issue.”

Gov. John Kasich “would have boycotted the ‘kids’ table’ debate if he hadn’t made the prime-time top 10 in Thursday’s GOP presidential matchup in Cleveland,” the Columbus Dispatch reports.

Said adviser John Weaver: “If we were not in the (prime-time part of the) debate, we would’ve been in New Hampshire putting points on the board where people are actually going to vote.”

Politico: “The Ohio governor, the last heavyweight to jump into the 17-candidate pool, barely squeaked onto the debate stage, registering a just-good-enough 4 percent. He wasn’t exactly an electrifying presence Thursday but he was steady, folksy and spoke with the authority of someone who is in office at the helm of a battleground state. During a debate that featured near unanimity on most major issues, he was the one candidate to truly differentiate himself, saying that he respected the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of same-sex marriage, a position that puts him in line with the party’s younger voters and the population at large.”

Cincinnati Enquirer: “While working at Lehman Brothers, Kasich took a risk and bought a hip-hop CD, in this case by The Roots. He found the lyrics so vulgar he said he pulled over to the side of the road and tossed the CD out of the car.”

No need for what he considered “offensive drivel,” he wrote.

The super PAC supporting Ohio Gov. John Kasich, raised more than $11 million, Politico reports.

“Kasich’s super PAC haul places him in the middle tier of candidates, behind Jeb Bush ($103 million), Ted Cruz ($37 million), Scott Walker ($20 million), Rick Perry ($16.8 million), and Marco Rubio ($16 million). Chris Christie’s super PAC has also reportedly raised around $11 million.”
