Fetterman Says His Recovery ‘Changes Everything’

October 11, 2022 at 3:43 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Pennsylvania U.S. Senate candidate John Fetterman (D) told NBC News that he still struggles to understand what he hears and to speak clearly following a stroke in May.

But he added that his recovery “changes everything” and that it would not affect his ability to serve in the Senate.

Said Fetterman: “I don’t think it’s going to have an impact. I feel like I’m gonna get better and better — every day. And by January, I’m going to be, you know, much better. And Dr. Oz is still going to be a fraud.”

The Vulnerability of John Fetterman

October 10, 2022 at 11:08 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Magazine: “In the final weeks, Fetterman is banking on the hope that voters will see in his vulnerability a new way to appreciate his strength. In our conversation, he was lucid and animated, eloquent about the stakes of the race and incensed about the nasty tenor of Oz’s campaign. There were also moments in which his syntax got snarled or he had trouble getting a word out.”

Said Fetterman: “I really can’t hide it even if I wanted to.”

Fetterman Kept Light Schedule as Lieutenant Governor

October 6, 2022 at 8:53 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“In his campaign for a crucial U.S. Senate seat, Democrat John Fetterman takes credit for reinventing Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor’s office, transforming it from a political pit stop into a ‘bully pulpit‘ from which he’s advanced progressive causes,” the AP reports.

“Records from Fetterman’s four years in office, however, offer a different portrait of his time in the $179,000-a-year elected job. They show Fetterman typically kept a light work schedule and was often absent from state business, including presiding over the state Senate, which is one of his chief duties.”

Pennsylvania Senate Race Moves Back to Toss Up

October 4, 2022 at 1:18 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Cook Political Report: “In conversations with several GOP strategists and lawmakers — who a month and a half ago had begun to put the Keystone State in the loss column — this has emerged as a margin-of-error race that they once again see winnable. Republicans and Democrats alike admit the race has tightened and that Pennsylvania could be the tipping point state for the Senate majority.”

Pennsylvania U.S. Senate candidate Mehmet Oz (R) went after his opponent, John Fetterman (D), for purchasing his home for $1 from his family, saying “Only in John Fetterman’s world can you go house hunting and get a home for $1.”

It sounded like a good attack on Fetterman’s blue-collar image, though Fetterman has long admitted that his parents supported him well into adulthood.

But NBC News quickly found that Oz’s mother-in-law, Emily Lemole, also bought her home for $1.
