June 6, 2023 at 10:18 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“A grassroots movement to redraw Oregon’s border is gaining traction after voters in 11 rural, conservative counties approved measures this year that would start the process of seceding from the blue state and joining Republican-dominated Idaho,” NBC News reports.

“In Oregon’s Wallowa County, just eight votes separated those who support the Greater Idaho movement from those who oppose it last week, the county clerk said. Tuesday is the deadline to resubmit ballots that either did not have signatures or had signatures that did not match county records.”

White House Keeps Its Promise to Joe Manchin

May 31, 2023 at 8:46 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Washington Post: “White House officials agreed to include the language to honor a promise they made to Manchin last summer. To secure Manchin’s support for Democrats’ landmark climate law, dubbed the Inflation Reduction Act, party leaders agreed to pass a follow-up bill that would speed up the nation’s permitting process for the pipeline and other energy projects.”

“The debt ceiling deal would approve all of the outstanding permits for the Mountain Valley Pipeline within 21 days of the bill’s passage. Environmental lawyers have called this language an extraordinary end-run around the courts, noting that the pipeline has been delayed by a string of legal setbacks.”

CNN: Manchin could get a gas pipeline out of the debt ceiling deal, and environmental advocates are livid.

Associated Press: “Paxton, who served five terms in the House and one in the Senate before becoming attorney general, is sure to still have allies in Austin.”

“A likely one is his wife, Angela, a two-term state senator who could be in the awkward position of voting on her husband’s political future. It’s unclear whether she would or should participate in the Senate trial, where the 31 members make margins tight.”

However, it gets complicated: “Paxton’s impeachment deals with an extramarital affair he acknowledged to members of his staff years earlier.”
