Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) “tried to break the impasse over immigration on Sunday, suggesting that Congress pass a law that wouldn’t take effect until after President Obama leaves office. But there was no indication House Republicans would take up his idea,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
His suggestion was a direct response to House Speaker John Boehner who said Republicans don’t trust Obama to enforce the law.
Said Schumer: “There’s a simple solution: Let’s enact the law this year, but simply not let it actually start ’til 2017, after President Obama’s term is over.”
