Bonus Quote of the Day

“I’m still trying to decipher if this is God’s calling. You’ve got to be crazy to want to be president of the United States. You’ve got to be crazy. To look at what it does to a person and a family, you’ve got to be crazy. But you should only do it if you feel that God’s called you to get in there and make a difference.”

— Gov. Scott Walker (R), quoted by the Wall Street Journal.

  • Bignose

So, Governor, are you saying that Obama was, in fact, called to be president by God?

    • vidarien

The democratic god is a fake sodom and gomorrah type god, it was noted as such in the Bible. In fact, if you visit Obamas Hyde Park house, you can even see a gold goats head hanging on the wall through one of the windows. So, its not really equivalent to the good Jesus’y god.

      • https://politicalwire.com/ mikemiller56

Speaking of Hyde Park, the President’s library should be farther down the road. The Pullman District has the space. I mean Cottage Grove from 103th to 111th is a nice sized piece of property, the campus does not have the space. He made it a national monument last week. We will see!

    • exboyracer

I think he means that you have to be called by the real god, none of these fake gods, and everyone knows that Obama can’t be called by a real god because he is from Kenya and he is fascist commie socialists and they probably don’t even believe in even the fake god. It gets so confusing it makes your head want to assplode.

    • LMW51

Well, he may very well have been. And guess what? Christians believe that ALL things work together for good for those who love the Lord….so, we can have that hope that 2016 will bring about change we can believe in…

  • DKDC

If you are hearing voices from a disembodied being telling you what to do, maybe you should seek psychiatric help.

    • S1AMER

The ACA provides the mental-health coverage so many Republicans need.

    • pisher

More dog-whistling–Walker knows damned well God isn’t talking to him, and so do the people he’s talking to, but what he’s saying is “We are godly people, and the others are not.” And he’s not just talking about Democrats.

      • LMW51

No, what he is saying is that if he is called to run, the decision will be confirmed by various things that non-believers would interpret as mere coincidence…not surprising that you wouldn’t understand that.

    • Gwyneth Hannaford

But if you hear voices from God you are a saint. Snark.

    • exboyracer

But with the teapublicans it is hot damn jesus wants me to hasten on armageddon.

      • LMW51

Nah, Obama has that covered….just look at the Middle East.

  • Design8

If God texts instead of calling, what will Walker do then?

    • Jester A. Arthur

I guess Walker’s biggest problem is that according to the Bible, one of God’s preferred means of communication happens to be a bush…

      • jjbrainstorm

Jeb would have to set himself aflame before Walker would listen.

        • E_Grise

          Film at 10:00.

        • Jester A. Arthur

Maybe it would be sufficient for Jeb to don a Miami Heat jersey?

      • Jim Johnson

Maybe if God, via the bush, tells him to perform human sacrifice he will obey. He seems to enjoy torturing teachers. This Walker guy is very creepy.

  • Cloner

Can God call more than one person to run for president? Why would S/He do that? And since S/He is omniscient and omnipotent, doesn’t S/He already know who is going to win?

    • Rondova

Maybe S/He wants to teach them humility.

      • montag

I think it’s because God has a wonderful sense of humor and gets a kick out of watching fools make even bigger fools of themselves.

    • GatorLegal1

All good questions. Pretty sure I don’t care to hear Scott Walker expound on any of it though!

  • S1AMER

Every Republican who runs for the nomination will claim that God asked him to take on the job. Methinks their God has a wicked sense of humor.

    • Lynette Huffstedtler

      Or is schizophrenic.

  • Jim Johnson

No, Scotty, that is not God calling. Those voices you hear in your head are the greedy, selfish Koch brothers and all the other racists, oligarchs and Satanists that are calling on you to do the dirty work of turning Wisconsin and the rest of the country into Mississippi. Just imagine all the damage you could do to working people and our education systems if you were President.

    • esro

To Walker, God and Koch are synonymous.

  • TimWolfe

Scott Walker: God asked for someone batshit crazy, so I said, “Here am I, Lord, send me!”

  • Ryan

Hearing voices, Governor? There’s a term for that.

  • Buford2k11

Ummm, be wary, be very wary of this guy…Evil works in mysterious ways…

  • Krusher

You need to listen more carefully, Scott. God is telling you to sit down and shut up.

  • Hobbes

So which is more disturbing – that Walker actually believes God will tell him whether or not to run, or that he would pretend he believes that to curry favor with the Christian base?

  • jon_downfromthetrees

Really playing to the religious extremists, isn’t he?

  • Wynstone

God called you to run, Scott, but he wants you to lose. He thinks it will be a learning experience for you.

Or maybe by “God”, he means the Koch brothers.

  • GatorLegal1

A week or two ago I thought this schmuck was headed for a showdown with Jeb Bush for the GOP nom…. Drop by drop though, now I think he’s headed for a slot on a Fox talk show. What a shame Wisconsin has to put up with this idiot until 2018. :(

    • Jim Johnson

Wisconsin is very much ashamed of this troublemaker.

      • montag

Then why did Wisconsin voters re-elect him and why didn’t they recall him when they had the chance?

        • ryp

          Because they are cheeseheads.

  • oldhandatthis

Is this Walker channeling Joan of Arc?

  • Daniel Breyfogle

If the little voice in you head says YOU SHALL BE PRESIDENT, it is Vanity talking, not God. And Vanity is the greatest of all the sins. Which makes me think anyone saying God has called him/her to the Presidency is a wicked sinner. IMHO.

  • littlejohn

Oh, don’t worry – you’ve got the crazy part down!

  • http://mediajunkie.com/ xian

how come no one ever asks God and then decides the message was not to run?

    • Ryan

Likely along the same lines as when Superbowl (any sporting event) losers don’t talk much about god when they lose. God only likes the victorious.

  • growe

So – if he runs, it proves he is crazy, and because he heard God tell him to run?
Yeah that won’t come back to haunt you and make you look like a nimrod.

Here’s a partial list of people who never said ‘you’d be crazy to run for President’:
Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, G W Bush, William J Clinton, GHW Bush, Reagan….

  • spiff

There it is!!! The humble God appeal story in a attempt to sidetrack all the negative press he’s been getting haha. Comments like this make me believe you are schizophrenic as well as being as idiot. Well done.

  • drtv11

Scott…God told me he’s either gonna call or text you later today, but In case you don’t get his message, he thinks you’d be better off to complete your education at McDonald’s Hamburger University and then join Rudy Guiliani and Bill O’Reilly in opening a burger joint in the Falkland Islands.

  • growe

I have a cousin who routinely says God tells him to do things (boring things – ‘God told me to do the dishes, God told me to scoop the cat’s litter box,’ etc) and they make him take a lot of medications for it.

    • montag

Remember Tammy Faye Baker, growe? She was like that. “The Lord helped me choose the material to reupholster this couch.”

      • growe

I remember Tammy Faye (addicted to Mary Kay) but holy cow I didn’t know she claimed God as her interior designer? I guess she helped her and Jim pick out the air conditioned doghouse furniture too.

    • DKDC

There is a distinct segment of the population that use God and Satan to explain nearly everything in their life. Car got a flat tire? Must have been Satan. Found a dollar in the seat cushion? Well then, thank you Jeebus!

  • OtherTim

Please let them nominate Walker. On the national stage, this guy is going to implode.

  • ProfessorNewshound

Given Walker’s shameless dodging, weaving, and positioning, methinks the gods have already whispered into his ambitious ear.

  • 66kicks

Walker is waiting to hear from a burning Bush about whether to run for President. And Walker’s just crazy enough to run.

  • OBforObama

Isn’t there a movie with a title that goes something like ” First the Gods Make You Crazy?”

  • DemInExile

I will never understand why true honest to god (pun intended) religious people are not offended and outraged every time a politician spouts off and uses God and faith in such a nakedly political and self serving manner. If you actually believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ, this crap should offend you to no end. Of course, one can wonder how many Christians actually believe in Christ’s teachings as opposed to some bastardized right wing version, a stance that would be quite consistent with supporting superficial Christian politicians who are pro-death penalty, regressive tax loving frauds.

  • Pirini Scleroso

Be careful there, Scott. Remember, God also called Michele Bachman, Pat Robertson, Pat Buchanan, Gary Bauer, Alan Keyes and several others to run for President and they didn’t make it. God apparently has a sense of humor, and you may just be the next one she’s playing with.

  • broccolid

    God:

“Are you deaf, Scott? I said ‘stay in school’. You think I would tell you to drop out of one of my own universities?”

  • Snick1946

I am now haunted by the possibility I may have missed my call from God. Probably didn’t recognize the number in caller ID, thought it was a telemarketer and let it ring out.

  • jimbeaux

“When you talk to god – it’s called prayer
    – when god talks to you – it’s called schizophrenia”
    – Lilli Tomlin (paraphrased)

  • ratfishtim

    To: Scott Walker
    From: God
    Subject: God’s calling

I do not want a nasty faux Christian hypocrite to be President, so I will not be calling you. I will look for someone who would ask, “What would Jesus do,” and then actually do it. This includes truly caring for the poor and downtrodden.

    Sincerely,
    God

  • JohnTomato

Which God? There are so many of them.
