Cruz Robocall Warns of Transgender Bathrooms

A new robocall going out to South Carolina voters on the eve of the state’s Republican primary blasts Donald Trump as a culture war appeaser in the battle between gay rights and religious freedom — and urges listeners to support Ted Cruz “before it’s too late,” BuzzFeed reports.

From the call: “It’s about mandatory celebration. It’s about forcing people to bake cakes and photograph gay weddings. Forcing clergy to officiate. It’s about transgender bathrooms in your child’s school. It’s about tearing down our Judeo-Christian values. It’s about tearing down our America.”

Have the BaggerNutJobs EVER had anything besides fear mongering?

    • BarryR

      No.

    • SoundTownSal

OUAT they were just tight-fisted and cautious.

  • BillBuckley

Hey, this type of garbage worked on the rubes in Iowa. Why not South Carolina?

    • Leslie Gray

It seems to still be working for him in Texas. Surprise?

  • scout124

Wasn’t that something from a South Park episode from a couple of seasons ago? Transgender bathrooms? Seems like they’re counting on their voters to not watch anything at all ever but Fox News.

  • Jester A. Arthur

It’s about transgender bathrooms in your child’s school.

  • Chris Leatherman

If voters ever stop being gullible and afraid, the GOP is screwed. Unfortunately, this crap still works in too many parts of the country.

    • drzaius

Gullible and afraid is in humanities job description.

    • Crysta

They are taught early on to be terrified of “teh other!”

  • richo123

Fun with Ted, Don and Ben.

    In closets and bathrooms.

    • TexasLou

      Good catch, Richo123…

      What’s that old saying?

He who meets in closets shouldn’t comment on bathroom etiquette?

    • embo66

Turns out Cruz plays as dirty as Lee Atwater, Karl Rove and the Bush clan.
      Somehow I am not surprised.

  • AlfredRegius

Yeah, if we’re not careful, pretty soon black people will be able to become citizens and women may even gain the right to vote. *shudder*

    • ArkonaRus

Some ignorant Americans probably don’t even realize that’s already happened!

  • bpai99

This fear-mongering, lying, Hitleresque piece of offal deserves to be defeated, and soon.

“The victor will never be asked if he told the truth.” – Adolf Hitler

  • enfuegobuddha

Need any more proof that Cruz is a sleazy pandering morally corrupt political animal? I find these sorts of tactics loathsome and deplorable. All that said, I hope it propels him to the Republican nomination. :-p

    • Leslie Gray

Cruz was just elevated to a Rove.

  • Decided Voter

    Tired of this one.

  • mtnycz

I think the most annoying part of his statement for me is “forcing clergy to officiate “. This is messed up for a few reasons

    1) no clergy member can be forced by law to officiate a gay wedding
    2) Cruz!s people know that so you’ll note that the way they worded it was dubious. They implied that clergy will be forced to officiate a gay wedding. Taken on its own, that sentence does not actually say it. When and if they are called on it, they will just say it was a statement about religious liberty… Not about gay weddings.

    • LarryBurt

The whole thing is based on lies. That”s the stock and trade of Republican strategists and candidates.

  • drzaius

    Did the robocall mention closets?

  • L2thaL

This is going to backfire big time! Cruz is going to get more evangelicals to now vote for Trump as we know Republicans love wide stances in bathrooms.

  • Calbengoshi

It appears that the success in Iowa of the last-minute false rumor about Carson has taught Cruz that the way to win a GOP primary/caucus is to launch an attack at the last moment that is designed to persuade gullible voters to change their mind while not giving the candidate being attacked any time to respond.

It will be interesting to see whether Trump figures out a way to handle this tactic before March 1.

  • OBforObama

It’s SC, folks. If The Donald isn’t doing this against Cruz it proves he has no organization.

  • ryp

Has anyone studied the efficacy of robo-calls? Who stays on the phone for more than 5 seconds after realizing they are being addressed by a recorded message?

  • Larry McD

    Rabies, anyone?

  • gjetsonpdx

Cruz is branching out from ‘ignorance is strength’ turf to ‘freedom Is slavery’. Bold move!

  • Wynstone

Pretty sleazy how they lump the clergy in with other businesses who can’t discriminate by law. They know full well, clergy will never be forced to officiate anything. If we imposed federal law on churches, the Catholics would be forced to allow women to be priests.

  • BarryR

This is good because it’s important to remember that as vile as Trump is, he is not worse than the anti-Semitic, homophobic, Christianist, ball of shit that is Ted Cruz.

  • alansnipes

Yes but he wen’t into a closet with Ben Carson.

  • alansnipes

Actually, it’s very simple. If you have male genetalia you use the men’s room. If you have female genetalia, you use the women’s restroom.

    • Lumpenproletariat

This transphobic ad brought to you by the Ted Cruz campaign! Ted Cruz for America is a registered trademark…

      • Snakegirl Lyn

        And a subsidiary of Hades.

    • TracyS711

You clearly don’t understand the detrimental effects it will have on our culture and our children if we institute this liberal policy you’re espousing. I’m 100% in favor of chromosome checks.

    • Crysta

Google Buck Angel… Show your wife/girlfriend/sister/right hand, and inform them that you support this man with a vagina, sharing their restroom, and if they see a man like this, not to panic, cause hes obviously got a vagina…

      Game set and match…

  • Lumpenproletariat

It’s a slippery slope, you know. First they force you to bake a cake. Then they force you to serve coloureds at your lunch counter. Then, presumably, come the FEMA concentration camps? There may be some intermediary steps, but it’s definitely a steep linear progression.

  • Snakegirl Lyn

Stay classy Raphael, stay classy. 😒

  • Liberty Belle

Shades of Phyllis Schlafly and her scaremongering about shared restrooms during her campaign against the ERA. Gender neutral restrooms became common even before her campaign ended, and it looks like transgender accommodations are already here.

  • Red Phillips

It’s about today’s version of “They’re coming for your innocent white daughters”.

  • Leslie Gray

Just a little more proof of the fact that these nutters will do and say anything to get into public office and them do even more to stay embedded in office like a tick, like the parasite they become. This also shows that the good Sinator Cruz is not so good after all. Not that he ever was in the first place.

  • Leslie Gray

The scuz is strong with this one.

  • ArkonaRus

Transgender bathrooms? “No, because our kids shouldn’t have to know those people exist”. Have to use the bathroom of the gender they are ‘born to’? “No, we can’t have that, either, because our kids shouldn’t be with those sickos in there”. Their solution? “Let those kids pee and shit in their pants”.
