Here’s a controversial thought: the legislative process in Congress today is not quite living up to the standard most of us learned in grade school. The biggest bills receive few or no hearings, major legislation is passed (if ever) only at the last conceivable moment, and Congressional leaders seem much more interested in hiding and obfuscating details about their proposals than trying to win the public’s approval for their passage. And this is with completely unified Republican control of Congress and the White House.
