Democrats Still May Not Have Votes for Witnesses

“House Democrats will rest their case on Friday and, despite bipartisan praise for their presentation, it does not appear to have accomplished its chief objective of persuading enough Republicans that they need to hear from live witnesses and see withheld documents,” the New York Times reports.

Said Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL): “Mr. Schiff was phenomenal, but I’m skeptical he moved any votes.”

Politico: “A small minority of GOP senators may ultimately end up mildly criticizing the president’s behavior in requesting investigations into Joe Biden and delaying military aid to Ukraine. But any expressions of disapproval are muted, or explained away as an honest mistake by a frustrated president who just wanted to fight corruption in Ukraine.”
