“President Trump attacked the recent elections, in which self-identified Democratic socialists have prevailed in primaries, as he spoke in front of Mount Rushmore on Friday ahead of the country’s semiquincentennial Independence Day celebration,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
Said Trump: “You can be a communist, or you can be a patriot, you cannot be both.”
He added: “There is now a resurgence of the Communist menace in our land—including from newcomers to our country who embrace ideas totally opposed to our way of life.”
New York Times: At Mount Rushmore, Trump veers from patriotism to “communism.”
