Biden Says Harris Will Cut Her Own Path

October 16, 2024 at 7:41 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

CNN: “Delivered during what has become a rare campaign stop for the incumbent, Biden said Harris’ loyalty to him up to now doesn’t mean she won’t forge her own way going ahead.”

Said Biden: “Every president has to cut their own path. That’s what I did. I was loyal to Barack Obama, but I cut my own path as president. That’s what Kamala is going to do. She’s been loyal so far, but she’s gonna cut her own path.”

Adviser Says Trump’s Erratic Interview Was ‘Greatest Ever’

October 16, 2024 at 7:37 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Former Trump adviser Stephen Miller said Donald Trump’s fiery live Bloomberg interview at the Economic Club of Chicago was the “greatest live interview any political leader or politician has done on the economy in our lifetimes” —despite numerous reports which labelled the appearance a “mess” and “catastrophic.”

Billionaires Pour Money Into Trump’s Campaign

October 16, 2024 at 7:08 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

CNN: “Altogether, just three billionaires – Musk, Adelson and Midwestern packaging magnate Richard Uihlein – donated roughly $220 million in a three-month period to groups backing the Republican’s candidacy.”

“Their staggering donations underscore the crucial role that a handful of billionaire megadonors are playing in Trump’s efforts to edge past his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, as their race has intensified.”

Trump’s Rhetorical Rampage Casts Shadow Over Campaign

October 16, 2024 at 7:05 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Axios: “With more voters finally tuning into the presidential race, Vice President Harris is determined to make Trump own his words — and not allow allies to sanitize his most incendiary and violent language.”

“Take the last month alone. Rather than temper his tone as the general election approaches, Trump’s public rhetoric has grown more erratic, hyperbolic and nativist than ever.”

Crowd of Republicans Will Join Harris in Pennsylvania

October 16, 2024 at 7:02 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Vice President Kamala Harris will continue her explicit outreach to Republican voters on Wednesday at a Pennsylvania event with a phalanx of former Republican elected officials who have turned against former President Donald Trump,“ the New York Times reports.

“Ms. Harris will be joined at a campaign stop in Bucks County, Pa., by former Representatives Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, Barbara Comstock and Denver Riggleman of Virginia, Chris Shays of Connecticut, Jim Greenwood of Pennsylvania and Mickey Edwards of Oklahoma.”

“Former Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan of Georgia and former Gov. Christine Todd Whitman of New Jersey, among others, are also expected to attend.”

Washington Post: Harris seeks to appeal to GOP with Pennsylvania rally, Fox News interview.

NBC News: “Two people familiar with the matter said she has expressed fresh concerns about security following two assassination attempts against… Trump.”

Trump Brags About His Math Skills and Economic Plans

October 16, 2024 at 6:50 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Donald Trump has been offering up new tax cuts to nearly every group of voters that he meets in recent weeks, shaking the nerves of budget watchers and fiscal hawks who fear his expensive economic promises will explode the nation’s already bulging national debt,” the New York Times reports.

“But on Tuesday, Mr. Trump made clear that he was unfazed by such concerns and offered a one-word solution: growth. Despite the doubts of economists from across the political spectrum, Mr. Trump said that he would just juice the economy by the force of his will and scoffed at suggestions that his pledges to abolish taxes on overtime, tips and Social Security benefits could cost as much as $15 trillion.”

Said Trump: “I was always very good at mathematics.”

Trump’s Erratic Endgame

October 16, 2024 at 6:48 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Washington Post: “With three weeks left until Election Day, Trump is running an unorthodox, freewheeling campaign, directing threats and insults at a wide mix of people and institutions, pushing his travels deeper into Democratic states where nonpartisan analysts do not regard him as competitive, and wielding darkening rhetoric about undocumented immigrants and personal attacks against Harris at campaign events where he often veers off-script and has mixed up words.”

Trump Escalates Threats to Political Opponents

October 15, 2024 at 11:09 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“With three weeks left before Election Day, former President Donald Trump is pushing to the forefront of his campaign a menacing political threat: that he would use the power of the presidency to crush those who disagree with him,” the New York Times reports.

“Mr. Trump has long flirted with, if not openly endorsed, anti-democratic tendencies… But never before has a presidential nominee — let alone a former president — openly suggested turning the military on American citizens simply because they oppose his candidacy.”

“As he escalates his threats of political retribution, Mr. Trump is offering voters the choice of a very different, and far less democratic, form of American government.”

Adelson Spends $95 Million to Boost Trump

October 15, 2024 at 11:06 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Billionaire Miriam Adelson, one of the most prolific donors backing Donald Trump since his 2016 run for the White House, poured $95 million into her super PAC supporting him,” Bloomberg reports.

Election Night Hand Count of Georgia Ballots Halted

October 15, 2024 at 10:28 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“A judge stopped a planned hand count of ballots on election night in Georgia, ruling Tuesday that it would create ‘administrative chaos’ if poll workers were required to handle millions of ballots without being trained,” the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

“Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney put the State Election Board’s hand-count requirement on hold primarily because it was approved so close to Election Day. The manual review would have counted the number of ballots but not votes.”

New York Times: “The rule was one of many new election provisions approved in Georgia since summer that hewed closely to policy goals of right-wing election activists. It was a key achievement of the State Election Board, which has recently been governed by a 3-2 right-wing majority.”

Another Bonus Quote of the Day

“The man is really quite weak. He’s weak. It’s a sign of weakness that you want to please dictators and seek their flattery and favor.”

— Kamala Harris, quoted by the New York Times, on Donald Trump.

Trump Crumbles When Pressed on Economic Policy

October 15, 2024 at 9:22 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Donald Trump continued his pre-election economic event tour on Tuesday with a lengthy interview with Bloomberg at the Economic Club of Chicago. It was a total mess,” Rolling Stone reports.

“Bloomberg Editor-In-Chief John Micklethwait did not take it easy on Trump, and it quickly became clear that the former president has no conception of the mechanics of or the potential ramifications of the economic platform he’s running on. Bluntly, the former president was incoherent when pressed with real questions about his policies.”

David Graham: “When he speaks about the economy, he sounds like a child—which might be the source of his appeal.”

Trump Will ‘Work the Fry Cooker’ at McDonald’s

October 15, 2024 at 9:15 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Donald Trump will make an unusual stop in Pennsylvania this weekend: to work behind the counter at a McDonald’s,” the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

“Trump will visit the state for a third time this week on Sunday to ‘work the fry cooker’ as part of an effort to tamp down on his Democratic opponent Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign message about working at McDonald’s while in college.”

“Trump has continuously claimed that Harris never worked at the fast-food chain, without evidence.”
