Charges Coming in Iranian Hack of Trump Campaign
“Federal law enforcement officials plan to announce criminal charges Friday in connection with the alleged Iranian hack of emails from members of former President Donald Trump’s campaign,” ABC News reports.
“The Iranians allegedly gained access to data and files taken from the email accounts of Trump advisers, which included internal documents used to vet Trump’s perspective running mate.”
Republicans Keep Straying Into Dangerous Territory
“Republicans don’t want to touch abortion, their most troublesome issue since the overturning of Roe v. Wade,” the New York Times reports.
“But like a toothache they keep probing with their tongue, they just can’t seem to help it…”
“Republicans have been eager to campaign on a southwestern border that at times has seemed uncontrolled, and on the lingering sting of inflation, both issues where voters continue to prefer Mr. Trump. But the one issue surveys have shown the party should be steering clear of is abortion.”
Trump Launches Line of Watches
GQ: “Hi everyone, it’s your favorite president, Donald J. Trump.”
“So begins Trump’s video introduction—nearly indistinguishable from a Saturday Night Live sketch—to his latest venture: A new collection of watches, including a $100,000 model with a tourbillon (a mechanism that continuously spins the watch’s movement).”
Says Trump, during the video: “That’s a lot of diamonds. I love gold, I love diamonds.”
Mike Pence Lays the Groundwork for a Post-Trump Future
“Mike Pence stuck his head up this week to take a whack at Trumpism, urging Republicans to reject ‘protectionist tariffs’ and ‘isolationism’ while ‘unashamedly’ recommitting to anti-abortion positions,” Semafor reports.
“It’s a sign of what he’s up to behind the scenes as well.”
“The former vice president is laying the groundwork for a party that could move on after the election from Donald Trump’s populism and protectionism. Sometimes that means being a rare voice of public dissent, at other times it means quietly trying to recruit allies to his cause who might be more willing to join him on specific policy or political fights.”
Trump Forced to Scrap Outdoor Rally
“Donald Trump’s campaign scrapped plans for an upcoming outdoor rally in Wisconsin after the Secret Service said it did not have the personnel needed to secure the site,” CBS News reports.
“The rally was set to take place outdoors at an airport on Saturday, but Trump will instead deliver remarks at a smaller indoor arena in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.”

Pro-Trump Group Plans a $70 Million Ad Buy
“One of the biggest super PACs supporting former President Donald Trump is adding $70 million to its television and digital reservations in the final six weeks of the campaign, including the first significant Republican super PAC ad buy in North Carolina since Labor Day,” the New York Times reports.
“The super PAC, MAGA Inc., is pouring the funds into four battleground states — North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona.”
“Most of the group’s money is going into Pennsylvania, officials at the super PAC said. The former president’s advisers and allies believe that a Trump win in Pennsylvania would block Vice President Kamala Harris’s path to the White House.”
Gaetz Will No Longer Cooperate with Ethics Probe
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said Thursday he will no longer voluntarily cooperate with a House Ethics Committee investigation into his conduct, calling the probe “uncomfortably nosey,” Politico reports.
Harris Ties Trump to Mark Robinson in New Ad
Kamala Harris’ campaign is launching a digital ad on Thursday trying to tie Donald Trump to embattled North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson (R) over their past statements on contraception, Axios reports.
The ad is the latest effort by the Harris campaign to connect Trump to the most extreme members of his party on the politically salient issue of reproductive rights.
Andrew Cuomo Preparing to Run for New York City Mayor
“Even before news broke of New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ indictment, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo was already signaling to allies that he was preparing to run for mayor,” Axios reports.

Democrats to Force Censure Vote of Clay Higgins
“Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) infuriated many of his House colleagues with his since-deleted racist X post about Haitian migrants, prompting a top Black Democrat to introduce a measure to formally reprimand him that will likely see a floor vote,” Politico reports.
“Congressional Black Caucus Chair Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV) is expected to force action on the censure resolution when the House returns after the November election.”
The Hill: Higgins walks back comments calling Haitians “thugs.”

House Republicans Head Home to Chase Votes
New York Times: “As they head home to make the case to voters for why they deserve to keep their dysfunctional House majority, Republicans have little to point to in terms of accomplishments. Must-pass legislation like raising the debt ceiling and spending bills to avoid ever-looming government shutdowns moved forward slowly, and only because Democrats supplied most of the votes to pass those bills.”
“Their investigations into the Biden family failed to implicate the only Biden who mattered, the one who is the sitting president, and did not result in the impeachment many promised their voters two years ago on the campaign trail. Their inquiries became moot anyway, after Mr. Biden said in July that he would not seek re-election.”
Biden and Harris Roll Out New Executive Action on Guns
“Joe Biden and Kamala Harris announced new executive actions on Thursday to address gun violence, an election-year move that builds the president’s legacy on the issue and provides Harris with a fresh opportunity to highlight her leadership as vice president,” Politico reports.
Elon Musk Is Effectively Running Trump’s Ground Game
“Donald Trump’s mass voter turnout program in crucial battleground states is now principally being run by America PAC, the political action committee backed by the billionaire Elon Musk,” The Guardian reports.
