Warren’s Been Talking to Andrew Gillum

October 10, 2019 at 2:34 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Presidential candidates often keep a running list of influential individuals who they will informally call for ideas, advice, and, perhaps, to scope them out as a potential running mate,” the Daily Beast reports.

“And for several candidates, including at least one in the top tier, former Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum is on speed dial. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), in particular, has been in contact with Gillum over the past several months.”

“Two sources said the talks between Warren and Gillum resemble the kind of courtship that happens when a leading presidential candidate is exploring potential vice presidential contenders.”

Federal Subpoena Demands Records on Andrew Gillum

May 30, 2019 at 12:48 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Andrew Gillum (D) is a focal point of a recently issued federal grand jury subpoena that demands information on the former Democratic candidate for governor, his campaign, his political committee, a wealthy donor, a charity he worked for and a former employer,” the Tampa Bay Times reports.

“Throughout his campaign last year, Gillum insisted that he was not a target of a sprawling FBI investigation of Tallahassee city hall, which has taken at least three years and resulted in three arrests… But the recent one does.”

Abrams Says Race Played Role In Beto’s Rise

March 27, 2019 at 5:12 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Stacey Abrams, the Democrat who narrowly lost the Georgia gubernatorial race in 2018, said she believes race may be playing a role in Democratic presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke’s rising popularity after his failed Senate run,” she told MSNBC.

“Abrams suggested that she and former Democratic Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum did not receive the same attention as the former Texas congressman, whose popularity skyrocketed after losing his 2018 Senate race.”

Gillum Launches Voter Drive In Florida

March 20, 2019 at 5:04 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Andrew Gillum has launched a Florida voter registration group dedicated to defeating President Trump’s re-election chances in the nation’s largest swing state,” Politico reports.

New York Times: “After losing his bid for Florida’s governorship by less than one half of a percentage point, Mr. Gillum, the former Tallahassee mayor, is now carefully planning his next steps amid speculation that he would run for president. On Wednesday, he announced he will not join the Democratic field seeking to oppose President Trump, but instead return to political organizing. He said he aims to build a voter mobilization network in Florida that will help whoever becomes the Democratic Party’s nominee to capture the state’s all-important 29 electoral votes.”

Former Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum is set to make a “major announcement” on March 20, USA Today reports.

Gillum Mulls Next Steps

December 23, 2018 at 12:35 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“His meeting with Barack Obama went over schedule. He and Beto O’Rourke have spoken. Not long ago, he thrilled 300 well-heeled political donors hungry to win in 2020. But no one seems to know, except for Andrew Gillum, if he’s actually thinking about running for president,” BuzzFeed News reports.

“The door is open for Gillum to explore a run for the presidency, strategists familiar with the rigors of organizing presidential campaigns said. Gillum has not ruled it out. But according to interviews with nearly a dozen friends, former aides, or associates for this story, he is on his own schedule. He intends to do what’s most effective for Democrats to beat President Donald Trump in 2020 and is said to be unfazed by the people pushing him to run for the Democratic nomination.”
