John Dowd, who previously led President Trump’s personal legal team, told Fox News that he is still actively advising the president’s lawyers as they grapple with the Mueller probe, adding that he speaks with Trump “every week or so.”
Dowd declined to tell the Daily Beast more about his interactions with Trump and his lawyers. But Rudy Giuliani, now a member of the team, said Dowd privately consults with Trump himself and his lawyers.
Wall Street Journal: “In both cases, the president’s advisers objected to the lawyer’s actions over concerns it could appear aimed at stopping the two former aides from cooperating with investigators.”
“John Dowd, who at the time was heading Mr. Trump’s legal team, at the start of the year told associates of the president he wanted to direct money from the legal defense fund set up for White House officials and campaign aides to the lawyers for Messrs. Manafort and Gates.”
“I have a lot of experience with John Dowd… in cases before my office, and he said then – as he’s saying now – a lot of incorrect, mistaken and on occasion ludicrous things. So I wouldn’t put a lot of stock into it.”
