“The federal investigation into the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has yet to find a link between the alleged shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, and left-wing groups on which President Donald Trump and his administration have pledged to crack down after the killing,” NBC News reports.
The Left Is Not More Violent
Aaron Blake: “How do the right and left compare when it comes to 1) perpetrating violence and 2) their support for it?”
“The data, save for a few polls cherry-picked by the right, doesn’t generally back up Trump’s claims that this is a bigger problem on the left. In fact, it usually shows the opposite.”
Most Americans Critical of Trump on Crime
A new Washington Post-Ipsos poll finds that Americans disapprove of President Trump’s performance on crime by a 10-percentage-point margin and oppose him ordering the National Guard to other cities by a four-point margin.
However, Americans say they trust Republicans over Democrats on crime by a 2-to-1 margin, showing how the issue is not a clear-cut political winner for the president’s critics.
A majority still say they want Democrats to control the next Congress “as a check on Trump.”
The Shifting Ideology Behind Political Violence
“For decades, right-wing extremists and jihadists have been responsible for the bulk of America’s deadly political violence and domestic terrorism, from the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing to the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting, according to researchers,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
“But those tracking such violence say more acts are being committed by those holding either explicitly leftist views, no dominant political views or a mix of fringe ideologies, including the alleged gunman in the fatal shooting of a UnitedHealthcare executive in December and the suspect in the killing of two Israeli diplomats in Washington in May.”
Death Threats Against Mamdani Lead to Arrest
“A Texas man has been arrested and charged with making anti-Muslim death threats against Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for New York City mayor and the front-runner in recent polls,” Bloomberg reports.
Republicans Eye Major Crime Bill Before Midterms
“President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans are actively discussing a sweeping crime bill that would go far beyond their recent forays into DC’s criminal justice system,” Semafor reports
“The GOP’s plans are early and fluid but serious… Taking up a national crime bill as the midterm campaign heats up would help the party keep momentum on what it sees as a politically advantageous issue as polls show Trump’s handling of the economy losing favor with voters.”
“But steering a sweeping piece of legislation to Trump’s desk during an election year won’t be easy.”
Shot Fired at Democratic Lawmaker’s House
A suspect has been detained after a gunshot was fired at the home of Illinois state Sen. Meg Loughran Cappel (D), NewsNation reports.
Fake Shooter Charged for Child Porn
The man who told police he shot Charlie Kirk is being charged with possessing child pornography, TMZ reports.
After his arrest, George Zinn admitted he did not shoot Kirk and told officers he pretended to be the shooter “so the real suspect could get away.”
Suspected Killer’s Politics Were Not ‘Leftist’
Newly leaked social media messages from suspected assassin Tyler Robinson tell a very different story than you’ve heard from government officials, Ken Klippenstein reports.
He wasn’t a Groyper. But he also wasn’t Antifa.
Prosecutors to Seek Death Penalty for Charlie Kirk’s Killer
“The 22-year-old Utahn accused of fatally shooting conservative commentator Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University last week now faces aggravated murder charges — and prosecutors indicate that, if he’s convicted, they will seek his death,” the Salt Lake Tribune reports.
“Prosecutors specifically charged Tyler James Robinson on Tuesday with seven offenses: aggravated murder, a first-degree felony; discharge of a firearm, a first-degree felony; two counts of obstruction of justice, second-degree felonies; two counts of tampering with a witness, third-degree felonies; and a misdemeanor count of violence offense committed in the presence of a child, according to charging documents.”
The Washington Post reports Robinson sent a text message after the shooting to his roommate, saying: “I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out.”
And the Associated Press says Robinson “left a note under a keyboard saying he planned to kill Kirk and confessed after the shooting.”
Man Falsely Confessed to Help Assassin Escape
“In the moments after Charlie Kirk was killed, a 71-year-old man yelled to police officers that he was the shooter, but he later explained that he had falsely confessed in order to help the real assassin escape,” the New York Times reports.
“The man, a political gadfly named George Zinn, was arrested on suspicion of obstruction of justice, a felony, with the police saying that he had delayed investigators’ hunt for the actual perpetrator.”

Judge Dismisses Terror Charges Against Luigi Mangione
A New York judge dismissed two terror-related charges against Luigi Mangione, including murder in the first degree in furtherance of an act of terrorism and murder in the second degree as a crime of terrorism, finding they are “legally insufficient,” CNN reports.
Mangione still faces a count of murder in the second degree.
Two Arrested for Explosive Device Under Fox News Van

Suspect Appeared to Confess in Group Chat
“The 22-year-old suspect in Charlie Kirk’s killing appears to have confessed to friends in an online chat shortly before turning himself in to law enforcement,” the Washington Post reports.
Wrote Tyler Robinson: “Hey guys, I have bad news for you all. It was me at UVU yesterday. I’m sorry for all of this.”
Axios: How Charlie Kirk’s killing sparked unfounded theories about Groypers.
Suspect Sent Text Saying He Was Going to ‘Take Out’ Kirk
FBI Director Kash Patel said that Tyler Robinson had sent a text before the shooting, saying he had an opportunity to “take out” Charlie Kirk and “he was going to do it because of his hatred for what Charlie stood for,” the Los Angeles Times reports.
It is unclear who Robinson sent the text to, or whether that person alerted law enforcement.
Trump Says Leftists Are Under ‘Major Investigation’
President Trump repeated his claim that people on the political “left” are to blame for assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Utah last week, the AP reports.
Said Trump: “When you look at the agitators, you look at the scum that speaks so badly of our country, the American flag burnings all over the place, that’s the left.”
Did People Know Charlie Kirk Was Going to Be Shot?
“The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating social media posts by at least seven different accounts that appeared to indicate foreknowledge of the assassination of Charlie Kirk,” the Washington Free Beacon reports.
“The posts—one of which referenced the date of Kirk’s assassination, September 10, more than a month before it took place—were all deleted in the days following the killing.”
