A U.S. Capitol Police officer has died from events stemming from Wednesday’s riot at the Capitol, CNN reports.

Acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen vowed that pro-Trump rioters who entered the U.S. Capitol would “face the full consequences of their actions under the law,” and those consequences could include being charged under President Trump’s executive order authorizing up to 10 years in prison for “injury of federal property,” Fox News reports.

Federal law enforcement officials say the devices found near the RNC and DNC headquarters on Wednesday were actual explosive devices, not phonies, Fox News reports.

“A newly-elected member of West Virginia’s House of Delegates was among the mob who stormed the U.S. Capitol today,” West Virginia Metro News reports.

“Derrick Evans (R) livestreamed and then deleted videos from inside the Capitol, but others took screenshots and videos of the original videos.”

One video shows him in the Capitol interior while surging through a door. He says, “We’re in! We’re in! Derrick Evans is in the Capitol!”

“An explosive device was found at the headquarters of the Republican National Committee in Washington and the nearby headquarters of the Democratic National Committee was evacuated after the discovery of a suspicious package on Wednesday,” the New York Times reports.

Meanwhile, CNBC reports the FBI “is investigating suspicious devices after reports of improvised explosives on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol.”

Trump supporters broke through fences and are fighting the police on the steps of the Capitol as Congress counts the Electoral College ballots inside, CNN reports.

“The leader of the Proud Boys, Enrique Tarrio, was arrested by D.C. police Monday afternoon on a warrant charging him with burning a Black Lives Matter banner taken from a historic Black church during a demonstration last month,” the Washington Post reports.

Nashville authorities believe an explosion that occurred in downtown Nashville early Christmas morning was an “intentional act” and sparked by a vehicle, the Tennessean reports.

Said Mayor John Cooper: “It looks like a bomb went off.”

A new study found that the federal government executed more prisoners in 2020 than all of the states that still carry out the death penalty combined.

Associated Press: “An assistant FBI director retired after he was accused of drunkenly groping a female subordinate in a stairwell. Another senior FBI official left after he was found to have sexually harassed eight employees. Yet another high-ranking FBI agent retired after he was accused of blackmailing a young employee into sexual encounter.”

“An Associated Press investigation has identified at least six sexual misconduct allegations involving senior FBI officials over the past five years, including two new claims brought this week by women who say they were sexually assaulted by ranking agents.”

President-elect Joe Biden has no plans to remove FBI director Christopher Wray if he is still in the job when the new administration comes in, the New York Times reports.

Former President Barack Obama said that “snappy” slogans such as “defund the police” can alienate people, making the statements less effective than intended, Axios reports.
