TV Networks Will Show Next January 6 Hearing

ABC, NBC and CBS will preempt their normal programming to show the January 6 Committee hearing on Thursday night, while a Fox spokesman “says the hearings will be available to affiliates in the event they wish to televise them in their markets,” Deadline reports.

Pulitzer Board Says Russian Collusion Stories Stand Up

The Pulitzer Prize Board upheld the 2018 prize jointly awarded to The New York Times and The Washington Post for their reporting on the investigation into Russian collusion in the 2016 presidential campaign, finding no contradictory information that came out since the prize was awarded.

From the statement: “The separate reviews converged in their conclusions: that no passages or headlines, contentions or assertions in any of the winning submissions were discredited by facts that emerged subsequent to the conferral of the prizes.”

Gallup: “Americans’ confidence in two facets of the news media — newspapers and television news — has fallen to all-time low points.”

“Just 16% of U.S. adults now say they have ‘a great deal’ or ‘quite a lot’ of confidence in newspapers and 11% in television news. Both readings are down five percentage points since last year.”

News Engagement Plummets as Americans Tune Out

Conservative Newspaper Declares Trump Unfit

An editorial in the conservative Washington Examiner declares that former President Donald Trump is a “disgrace” who is “unfit to be anywhere near power ever again.”

Newspapers Keep Failing

“Over 360 newspapers in the United States have gone out of business since just before the start of the pandemic,“ the New York Times reports.

“Overall, 2,500 newspapers in the United States — a quarter of them — have closed since 2005. The country is set up to lose one-third of its newspapers by 2025. And in many places, the surviving local media outlets have made major cuts to staff and circulation.”

Fox Host Rips Trump Over Baseless Election Claims

Fox News host Brian Kilmeade attacked Donald Trump on Sunday and said he has seen no evidence that proves the former president’s claims of election fraud, the HuffPost reports.

Said Kilmeade: “I’ve said this before: I believe from the time when the election results came in until January 6th is the worst moment of Donald Trump’s political career.”

He added: “I think how you lose in life defines who you are. And even if there are things that bother you, welcome to the world. A lot of times times things don’t work out, and are so-called ‘unfair.’ Your team couldn’t prove the vote was rigged, move on.”

Article on Boris Johnson Vanishes

“The most talked-about article in the British newspapers last weekend was one that featured juicy allegations of love, ambition and thwarted corruption at the pinnacle of the British government. Then it vanished abruptly from the pages of The Times of London in the early hours of Saturday,” the New York Times reports.

“Two days later, the circumstances of its disappearance remain cloaked in mystery.”

“The article reported that Prime Minister Boris Johnson, when he was the foreign secretary in 2018, proposed appointing his mistress at the time, Carrie Symonds, as his chief of staff, with a salary of $122,000. Ms. Symonds married Mr. Johnson in 2021, but in 2018, he was still married to his previous wife, Marina.”

The Daily Mail posted a version of the report on its website only to delete it a few hours later.

USA Today Finds 23 Articles Were Fabricated

“USA Today said on Thursday that it had removed 23 articles from its website after an investigation into a reporter’s work revealed sources that appeared to be fabricated,” the New York Times reports.
