It’s Wrong to Say Trump Has a Ceiling

February 23, 2016 at 11:54 am EST By Taegan Goddard 4 Comments

This piece is only available to Political Wire members.

Much of the analysis around Donald Trump’s prospects in the Republican primaries centers around a claim that he has a ceiling to his support of about 30-35%. The thinking is that there’s no way Trump can win a two-man race and a good chance he would lose a three-man race too.

Why Rubio Was a Big Winner Tonight

February 20, 2016 at 10:35 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 21 Comments

This piece is only available to Political Wire members.

For a guy who hasn’t won anything yet, Sen. Marco Rubio had a very good night. He likely finished in second place in South Carolina, but even if he slips into third it was still a very good night.

The main reason is that Jeb Bush dropped out of the race. Bush was obviously not persuaded by the argument that staying in the race could allow him to play a role in a contested convention. Instead, he got out of the race so he would not be responsible for allowing Donald Trump to win the nomination.
