Louisiana state Rep. Ray Garofalo Jr. (R) suggested there was some “good” about slavery when explaining legislation he introduced to prohibit the teaching of so-called “divisive concepts” in schools in the state, including the idea that the country is “systematically racist.”
He later backpedaled and said he “didn’t mean to imply that.”
The Baton Rouge Advocate reports Garofalo has since pulled his legislation.
